How long does it take to process a request for a NY work permit? I know things may be slowed down now because of the storm.

Ours came in a couple of weeks. Of course this was before the storm. It was really quick though. Processing is not in NYC so I don't know if they were affected by the storm at all. Patience.

Mamager, I don't know your situation, but we were in a situation where we needed it "yesterday". I spoke with a super nice and helpful lady on the phone, and she suggested I send a return FedEx envelope with the application. It was pricey, but we got it quickly and it was worth spending the money for what I needed for at that particular time. Of course, you'd have to confirm with them yourself before investing in FedEx, but that's my story to share.

Otherwise, yes, I've heard 2 to 4 weeks under "normal" circumstances. I don't know how Albany was effected by the storm, or how the mail is running, now.

Thanks everyone!

We sent our app off just before the storm. We are submitting but are skipping calls that state MUST HAVE PERMIT. So That is not a real emergency. It just bugs me to pass on a submission when there are so few opportunities that fit her age. I will get over it in a couple weeks.

We renewed prior to the storm and it did take longer than usual. In the past it was under 2 weeks. I spoke with the office and they said they were running behind. It ended up taking over 3.

Mamager there is an emergency permit that you can get ONE time. If it's a great audition do not pass it up. Speak with you agent or manager about it if you have one. You don't want to use it unless you have to but you can do this once.

NYS renewal permit turnaround time is (my experience) about 2 weeks. Processing of the initial permit takes longer. Helpful renewal tip: send copy of trust account statement with child's name and account number, even if your child's trust account remains the same.

We went to their office downtown and got it in 15 minutes! If that's an option for you, it is the quickest!

Thanks everyone!

It came in today. It took almost 3 weeks through mail. I think waiting for the last minute would have been fine if I already had the schools verification of good standing complete. I needed to call the school a couple of times to get them to complete that. The school counselor was just unfamiliar with the form.
