JBJMom - thank you for the info. - very helpful, it's good to have an idea of what to expect.

Hi, UConn - we received an email letting us know that she has been called back to dance, that they won't be singing this time, but to bring her song book just in case (along with headshot and resume again...).

We're new at this, but I'm guessing all communication is via email until you're actually being offered a part. Maybe you'd get a phone call at that point - which has been our experience with smaller productions.

Best of luck to all! Smiler

Has anyone heard if cb's have gone out from the 9/8 dancer call to come back and sing?

I noticed that on backstage.com today - the Matilda open call for Sept. 30 is still open. Does anyone have confirmation the roles of Matilda have been cast? My dd was asked to send in a tape by sept. 13 for the role.

My guess is that with the open call, they do not have all lead roles cast.

However, two people about whom I know both got asked for a cb (no date specified, other than Sept.) within a day or two of submitting tapes this summer, whereas my dd has gone a month with no word. I aassumed she would not be a contender, so am not surprised, but my guess based on the others is that they contact almost immediately if they are interested.

GL and keep us posted!

Hi folks. I had a child at the dance callbacks today (from the 9/9 ECC). She had a blast. =) From what I gather in this thread there was not only a dance callback today, but also a singer callback for those who went to the 9/8 ECC dance call, and callbacks for the role of Matilda tomorrow. Can anyone confirm? Do we know yet if the 9/30 open call was cancelled? Do we know approx how many kids they are narrowed down to, and approx how many they will take? There were 27 today at the dance callback.

Please post if you hear anything. =)

I thought I had read somewhere that there were rotating teams of "classmates" for the show...does anyone else know?

On the Matilda on Bway FB page, the open call is still listed, so I imagine it will not be cancelled. It specifically notes they are looking for the lead role.

My guess is that they want more professional kids for the classmates, thus the closed calls and narrow downs already, but that for Matilda, if whomever posted above was right, they are looking more for vocals and acting in a quirky, tiny package, but not dancing. Thus if they open it up to all, they will get some more kids.

Wish we lived closed to NYC!

Congrats to DD! So exciting! It's going to be a great show. London just was put in Guiness Book for most Oliver Awards.

Can anyone whose child attended the singing call back yesterday Sept 20th share what their experience was in the room? Did they sing more than 1 song?

Any info from anyone who had a child who participated in the open calls, auditions and callbacks in May & June?

For ThtrMaven and SkipHop - based on what I have read about the London production, there are 8 classmates for the children's roles (4 boys, 4 girls), with 3 actors sharing each role, for a total of 24 - so 12 girls and 12 boys (A+ in math for me Wink )

Exciting! Best of luck to everyone.

England has much stricter child labor laws than the US. When Billy Elliot was in the UK, there were three sets of ballet girls. Here, only one. So I wouldn't be surprised if Matilda goes the same way, multi-casting the title role only because of the demands of the role and using only one group of school kids with a few swings.
