Did anyone go on callbacks yet? What is done on the callbacks for the girl singers?

We went to the ECC singers last weekend.

Did anyone go to the EPA on Thursday?

Just wondering what they did for the role of Matilda.

Seems as if they may have found what they were looking for. Looks as if they cancelled the Sept 30th audition for Matilda. We are new to this business, are the audition processes for these shows always so all over the place like this one is?

vanada - how did you find out the 9/30 open call was cancelled? I'm not aware of this.

There are others on this board that can better answer your question but I don't think it's common for an open call that was publicized to be cancelled.

My DD's manager sent a change in audition schedule to us from the casting directors website and that date is no longer on there. I didnt question it because my DD is too tall anyway, but it isnt listed on broadway world anymore either.

I just went to Nora Brennan's website, and couldnt find anything posted about the 9/30 audition. It seems to have been taken down. Weird!

it hasn't been cancelled. but I hear she has a very specific "type" in mind for the lead.

a small girl that is about 4'1" or smaller, not a dancer but a normal girl with a strong voice.

It was in an article that was about the dance workshops recently where a lot of hopeful dancers were hoping to wow Nora for the chance to be Matilda but she specifically said later that she did not want a dancer for this part. Another article said they didn't want anyone overly polished & experienced (I read that as those kids that are stiff and "child actor-y") either, reiterating "normal child". Kind of reminds me of the Annie casting, the little girl cast is a very talented, sweet, modest REAL girl who sort of came out of nowhere.

Anyone else hear anything?

Lila did not come out of nowhere. She has been performing on Broadway for years.

just basing that off some of the articles I had read, I don't mean she literally popped out of middle of nowhere Iowa or something, and I didn't say that either. But what I read was that she wasn't the norm, she wasn't all phony and "child actor-y" when she auditioned, she was real and to them, "came out of nowhere" compared to what they had seen.
I'm sure she did have some experience. I don't follow her career so I don't know what her resume holds, nor do I care. I was just basing this off what I read and what the Matilda casting calls for based off of wanting "normal, real kids" who aren't dancers.

Either way, I like her...a lot. All of her interviews are so sweet and she is modest, personable, talented, and unlike so many others who have a serious air of arrogance.
You come across as a little offended or something though. Maybe your own daughter will end up as Matilda and she will be just as likable to those "not in the know". Or maybe you're cranky because your daughter is too tall/old or something. Who knows, but thanks for feeling the need to inform me that Lila has been on Broadway for years as if it changes any of my opinions on her above or makes it relevant to the casting info. Good luck.

Wow Binker...talk about cranky. You're the one that sounds angry. Lila is as polished as they come. And she is bi-coastal. She did not come out of nowhere. You might not have meant to, but your post sounded like a put-down to a lot of other kids. And, you're misinformed about her background. That said, I think I know what you wanted to say, but you did not say it well at all. Lila is not only experienced, but and she is a talented actress. And the poise she possesses comes with being in the business for a long time.

Well I apologize for coming across as cranky as well. I was only complimenting the child. Really, all I said was what Nora Brennan said she specifically wanted for Matilda. That it reminded me of what I read about the Annie castings; what the articles had said about her "coming out of nowhere" and amazing them. I apologize if some people take that literally, and feel the need to correct me as if it is relevant. I'm sure most people understood what I was saying. And like I said in my 2nd post, informing me I'm wrong about her background doesn't change the casting info, the articles written or the opinions about her being very sweet and real. It's really not that big of a deal.

I probably do need to word things differently, but at the same time, I didn't say anything bad. How other people take things and respond is out of my control and I'm entitled to respond, just as you are.

Sorry that my comment about some kids coming across as arrogant, forced or "child actor-y" offends. Attributes like that aren't favorable for any young actor anywhere, so if it is taken as a put down, I would assume that is something that needs to be worked on from within. I'm not the only one with opinions like that regarding young actors. I was also not referring to anyone directly. Again, it is just what I read and what I associated it with when I read what Nora Brennan said she wanted for Matilda and the articles regarding the Annie casting.

Either way, I apologize for offending that guy with my misinformation regarding Lila's background and making him feel compelled to correct me, even if I feel it is irrelevant information. I apologize for making a snarky comment as a response. But I do feel I must have said something to trigger the pretty much snarky & irrelevant response regarding her background...I feel it came out of nowhere and is probably just a catty response because I wrote statistics that no longer match his daughter or something. But again, just my opinion.

Good luck to all of you auditioning, I'm sure it'll be fun and I'm sure whoever they pick will be amazing. The most important thing here should be that the auditions haven't been canceled...at least according to my connection at the studio where the open calls are taking place. That and the little tid-bits of what they said they are looking for, it doesn't hurt to know anything and everything you can, especially if they are looking for something specific...and Nora already seems to have narrowed down what she wants type wise.

My dd went to the ECC for singers on 9/9 and now has a dance callback this Thursday. Reading through this thread, I see others have had the same experience earlier on this year. Can anyone tell us what to expect exactly? Do they go in as one big group? Split them up? Release girls and keep others during the 2 hours or so that they're scheduled for?

Also, how many children are expected to be cast at the end of the process?

Thanks!

singitbaby9: My child's experience with the dance callback was that they taught the dance in a big group & then broke it down to groups of two. There were no cuts--all the children stayed the entire 2 hours.
