About a year ago I started to dip my toes into the pound of acting. Didn't get far but from the few classes I took, I fell in love with it. I ended up giving it up to fully focus on school. The thought of "throwing away" as some would day, over a decade of private school education is what made me quit. Fast forward a few months and I can't stop thinking about acting. I find myself stalking these forms when I should be studying. I got a once in a life time opportunity to go abroad for a few months to study and intern, yet I find myself daydreaming about getting back into acting. Now there is no chance I am going to give this abroad opportunity up, but maybe all of this is a sign that I should get back into acting once I'm back in LA early this coming summer. Or do I wait until I fully finish my education when I'm 22 in 2015? As you can see I am in a bit of a pickle. Any fellow full time college students/ part time workers/ aspiring actors out there willing to shed some light or am I crazy for thinking I can juggle all three?

This is a tough call and this is what all of us who have to make a life choice have had to contend with and, in the end, decide on our own. You are getting some incredible opportunities in school that seem to bump into your life the minute you check out acting. You are young, and still exploring what is a new world to you, the adult world. A part of me says get your education in while you can, and do the acting classes on the weekend to shore up your resume. If you want it, you will make the time to work on the acting. Once you get the diploma, you can decide whether to pursue acting more seriously.

I totally agree with every thing ressydm said. You need to follow your heart, and its a hard decision to make, but in the end it is worth it. I'm actually in kind of the same situation as you are. I am earning a degree and with a minor, and both are unrelated to theatre/film. I am also planning on taking up internships. I feel that, for me at least, getting an education is the right thing. I feel that an education is worth it, especially if you love to learn! For me, I act outside of school through student films and indies/short films. I am planning on taking classes in Los Angeles this summer, and the summer after that interning in Los Angeles and taking night acting classes. While you get your education and if you look hard enough, you will be able to find things that can help you build your resume. That way, when you obtain that awesome degree because you are so smart, you won't be wondering "what if" because you will have both a killer resume and a fulfilling degree. So if you can, juggle them, and it will pay off. At least, that's my take on things. If you can't stop thinking about acting, go for it as much as you possibly can. But it is ultimately your decision. Good luck.

Get your education! I'm getting my MA degree as I act. And it is tough as HELL, but I'm doing it. Why? Because let's face reality. More than 90% of us will never make a living out of acting. We'll need another source of income. What if we get a family sooner than expected? I'm not saying don't go for acting, but an education will definitely help bring in some cash flow when you need it.

All those that have posted above make good points. It really depends on you.

If you think you might ever give up on on acting and get a "real job" then you should go to school. If you want a family someday, then you should go to school. If you are not all right with living in poverty then you should go to school.

I did go to college, and it was probably a mistake for me. But I'm still young, so who knows, maybe there will be some sort of pay off someday..

I say, get your degree, then go for acting.

In the mean time, fill yourself with as much knowledge as possible of the acting industry.

I will say that I have friends who go to school full time and work part time and still find time to do bit acting shorts/student films here and there. I dont reccomend it, but it could also be an option.

Wow! Mjg1267 I am in the exact same boat as you. I am a sophomore in college and I find my self spending hours, days looking at sites and stalking forums. I feel my education is important but what is the point in doing something in life if it doesn't make you happy? I decided I am going to go back into my acting career, and if something comes out of it, then I will take a break from college. Education is important but I am a strong believer in living life the way YOU want to live it, by YOUR standards and YOUR rules. Acting gives me bliss, school gives me sadness because I could be acting. I think life has a set path that only your heart knows how to follow.
