Amy's technique is very basic breaking down the scene stuff. I found that it was a good way to keep in practice, and not get lazy about doing the work, but it works best if you have a strong technique foundation going in.

One complaint: it's marketed as an audition technique class, thus you do not rehearse with your partner beforehand (which I like)... but you do read the scene with a partner, and almost every audition I have had is with a reader. So while it does keep one in practice, it's not really like an audition, in which you are reading opposite someone sitting in a chair who may or may not be giving something to act off of.

Go study with her. You don't need any prior training before. She'll teach you the basics.

And I hate classes where rehearsal outside is expected. In film and television, do you call up Tom Cruise to rehearse? NOPE! I don't always know who I'm working with. I just learn my lines, understand what's going on and listen and react to the other actors.

I called her studio a while ago and they told me they don't take beginners unless you are actively auditioning. Also told me I had to take privates in order to get the technique before I could take Amy's cold reading classes, which I never did.

I never studied with Brian Reise but I know people who studied with Brian Reise AND Margie Haber or Annie Grindlay and they all say Brian Reise doesn't come close.

Took Robert's intensive recently. He's a nice guy and professor. He focuses more on the technical aspect and he believes in memorization. It's different from Annie's class.

If you can, I say put some $ aside and study with Annie or Saxon. I'm in Saxon's class and trust me, the best $575 i have ever spent! I'm amazed actually at how much I'm learning in her class. And real, practical stuff you can utilize immediately. Do yourself a favour and get in her class!
