[ WALTER ]
(Male, 30-45, any ethnicity)—a middle school English teacher who can’t catch a break. Divorced, broke, and incapable of enjoying himself, Walter’s best friend nowadays is a bottle of wine. A connoisseur of all fine things, he knows how to live, but has trouble really living. Walter’s a wet noodle, but has an inner courage not many could match.
[ GRANT ]
(Male, 30-45, any ethnicity)-Walter’s best friend. A charming B...ok maybe C-list actor. The kind of guy who would ditch you at a party, and the next day act like nothing happened. About to get married, but can’t help hitting on anything with a pair of legs. Grant might come off a little self-centered, but if Walter killed a man, he’d help bury the body.

STORYLINE: When two friends take a trip out to wine country, they succumb to their weaknesses, confront their flaws, and find out they need each other a lot more than they ever thought...

This is a scene study for a graduate directing course in comedy that will be rehearsed and shot over several weeks.

It will be a unique opportunity to do a scene study with a graduate student director and have it filmed for your reel. In addition, the scene will be workshopped in class at least twice under the supervision of the amazing BARNET KELLMAN, a veteran TV and film director (check out his IMDB page!) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0446060/

The scene is from a major motion picture in which two friends take a trip to wine country before one of their weddings.

[ JACK ]
(30-50)- confident and outgoing. He likes to seize any opportunity to have fun. Jack is a B-list (or lower) actor and doesn't concern himself with rules and technicalities. He has been a bachelor his entire life and finally thinks he is ready to settle down. However, as his wedding day approaches he is having second thoughts, especially after meeting a beautiful, free-spirited woman on the trip.
[ MILES ]
(30-50)- divorced, uptight and depressed, he is having a midlife crisis and feels worthless. He has forgotten how to have fun and relax, especially when it comes to his dating life. He is a failed writer, but is very smart and a wine connoisseur.

"Sideways" was a great movie and immediately recognizable. Re-naming it is not going to fool anyone.

Also, maybe I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that you couldn't get waivers or Taft-Hartley'd from student films under the SAG agreement. That it solely existed to allow SAG actors to be in your film.

You can't unless it was SAG AFTRA New Media. A lot of the top film schools have agreements with the union where they can hire union actors and not have to pay them.

Okay this is what I thought. It never occured to me though to do a student film as a New Media.

This is a student production that will shoot for 1 day. There will be several rehearsals to specifically work on the director & actor process.

We will have auditions on the USC Campus. Specific building and room will be posted soon.

[ MILES ]
30s-40s. An aspiring author who teaches middle school English, Miles is only happy drinking and talking about wine. Though intelligent and articulate Miles would rather hide from his problems than face them.
[ JACK ]
30s-40s. Jack is a handsome, aging actor who only wants to get laid and get his friend Miles laid before they head back for Jack's wedding. He goes after what he wants without always thinking through the consequences.

As written the scene calls for Miles to be shirtless. This may be changed later but for now it is still in.
