Bad apartment reviews Login/Join

There are a couple of apartment complexes, the Media Center in Burbank, and SUmmer View in Sherman Oaks, that have good deals on rent and look like nice places. But on apartment ratings the reviews are horrible. Has anyone had any experience with these to apartment complexes?

Actually I've looked up a lot of places I've seen ads for, on Apartmentratings.com and it seems like a lot of places have awful reviews. It's confusing...

Do you have to rent without seeing the place first? If so, do you have a friend who could take a look for you. It's so hard to rent a place sight unseen.

Definitely come down and look at the place first. On a side note... most people that leave apartment reviews are review junkies or negative people. Something to take with a grain of salt but not as truth. There are a ton of prima donna characters in the LA area that love giving their opinion out, regardless of how credible they are.

THanks! Yea I will definitely being looking at the places, and others too. I was just wondering if it should really be taken too seriously, those reviews, but i guess not.

Hey there,

I don't want to create a new thread just for this, but I thought maybe someone can explain to me what is wrong with this Studio?

It seems too nice (with bills included) for such a price, and it's also pretty close. What am I missing? Thank you!

too naive, that is a normal price for a STUDIO (meaning 0 bedrooms) in Valley Village. While it may be close geographically to Hollywood and central LA, Valley Village isn't as nice as say Studio City or Toluca Lake, which are also in the valley.

For a 1bdr, you'd expect to pay $100-$300 more/month, depending on its location. A 1bdr in West Hollywood, for example, could be $1,500/month or more.

Thanks for the reply, peanut112.

I've seen people mentioning Burbank as a nice place to live, and this is pretty close to Burbank. Do you think this is a good option for the price, or not really?

toonaive, it's all relative. Your first year in LA is totally a learning experience. I have friends who live in Valley Village and love it. I have others who wouldn't dream of living there. Burbank is nicer, but it's more expensive.
What are your priorities? Price? Proximity to the highway? Proximity to restaurants, coffee shops, classes, etc? All will result in a different answer.

There's the grittier side of Valley Village but it has it's nice area too - Google Earth it and see what you think. To the OP, Either apartment should be nice; I would quickly move in to pretty much any place in Sherman Oaks and Burbank. I love Burbank and I'm assuming that place is in Downtown which is also nice.

Thanks guys!

I guess anywhere around Burbank as a first year in LA would do just fine then.

Yes, anywhere in Burbank is fine.

Look, Los Angeles is a big metro area, and there is crime in every area. You'll see it, you'll see homelessness, it becomes part of the fabric of LA, but if you search and search for a "safe" area, well, you'll be looking a while. I lived in Miracle Mile for eight years and loved it. I have friends who've been in Burbank for just as long and love it too.

Best of luck.
