CD Terry Berland changes her tune on "Acting Success Now" Login/Join

OK, as readers of this thread on the "free" Acting Success Now class (in fact, according to those have been, a promotion for the actual class, which costs hundreds of dollars) will know:

http://bbs.backstage.com/group.../9131061/m/346105214

Terry Berland, one of a number of CD's to have her own newsletter and mailing list, had spoken ringingly about how the class changed HER life:
quote:
"I am experiencing a more upbeat shift in my core, an inner joy has been awakened and I'm able to move forward in difficult situations towards my goals with more ease.

Raising the question: why is a CD taking a course meant for actors?

Apparently, she (or those she's promoting) reads this board. Here's what she's saying now:

quote:
After taking Acting Success Now workshops, time and time again, I see actors get out of their own way. They are able to work with more ease. The principles and tools taught by Acting Success Now are enormously empowering.

Not a word about how it's changed her own life. Funny, huh?

Does she now say that the free course is not the one providing all the benefits of what she describes as a "New" course? What do you think?

In fact the course has been around for years now. You'd think a program called "Acting Success Now" would have provided exactly that to a bunch of actors over the years. How many well-known actors do YOU know who have taken it?

(Their own site was running a promo from one such person, but once that was highlighted in the above thread, that promo mysteriously disappeared.)

And what qualifies the Colts (who run the program) to achieve such miraculous results? Maybe, having discovered methods they say led them to make "a quantum leap", they became hugely successful actors?

Judge for yourself:

Michelle Colt
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1273970/

Robert Colt
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm4200871/

As for other qualifications, here's what they USED to say:

quote:
They effortlessly combine quantum physics and neuroscience with profound and greatly misunderstood wisdom from the East to give you the TRUTH about acting success, not the "truthiness."

Pretty impressive, eh? Quantum physics, neuroscience, "wisdom from the East" - only all this stuff requires specific training and credentials and since they've been challenged on these points, they have mysteriously disappeared from their site.

Try now to find ANY specific credentials there.

They say where they went to school:

quote:
Robert attended Eckerd College and Columbia University and Michelle attended Central Connecticut State, Butler University, and a summer at Yale.

What degrees or certificates did they obtain (especially at Columbia and Yale)? What did they study? No sign.

Actors, need it be pointed out, don't typically have much money. They should be very careful about spending hundreds of dollars on any courses. But of course many don't know in going to what is advertised as a free course that that is what they will be asked to do.

And of course an actual Casting Director has promoted this. No doubt out of the goodness of her heart, without a smidgen of self-interest. What reason would they have to doubt her (or a few other industry pros with similar newsletters who also show similar, no doubt unsolicited and uncompensated, enthusiasm)?

So people will continue to go to this "free" course and some probably will spend the money and take the course.

Will they then achieve "Acting Success Now"?

What do you think?

They are probably just friends. This couple is like a Tony Robbins pair. I don't think it helps your acting except to help you stay positive so you don't have to get that here unless it's something you feel you need. They are nice people though and are good at motivational speaking.

(Uh, mmf, you DO know you don't have to copy the whole post to respond right?)

Yeah, I'd expect them to come across as "nice people". Except for one thing - how "nice" is it to keep advertising an introductory course as if it were the actual course, offered free, without mentioning that the actual course costs several hundred dollars?

That part I find less "nice".
