Yes, but each developed their own view of the technique. Why not just use Stanislavsky, instead of these three?

Because most of what is documented of Stanislavsky's teachings is OUTDATED! Even if your read his first two books cover to cover, you will NOT fully understand it. Of course you could go to the Moscow Art Theatre in Moscow, but finding a teacher who actually teaches pure up-to-date Stanislavsky in the U.S., GOOD LUCK!

Stella Adler was the only one of the big three who actually studied with him in his later years and found out that he was no longer doing affective memory or substitution because he realized that it doesn't always work for everyone and that time heals. He was then focusing more on imagination.

Meisner on his own came up with his own technique that is pretty much in line to what Stanislavsky was now practicing despite never having met the man like Adler.
