I'm currently planning to audition for a community theater production of Jesus Christ Superstar and luckily the director will be considering non-traditional casting for the show (as I am a woman auditioning for a male-role-heavy show).

As I am not aiming for the role of Mary Magdalene, what would be some other good female rock musical songs with which I can audition with? So far I have my sights set on the roles of King Herod and Simon Zealots.

Would any of these songs be a good match for these two particular roles? Are there any other suggestions?

"Take Me or Leave Me"-- Rent
"When You're Good to Mamma"-- Chicago
"Mamma Who Bore Me" or "Blue Wind"-- Spring Awakening
"Superboy and the Invisible Girl"-- Next to Normal
"Science Fiction, Double Feature"-- Rocky Horror Show

Anything by Webber, (Narrator's song from "Joseph"?) any 70s, 80s rock, (Pat Benatar, etc.)

Songs from "Hair,"or "Godspell" as they are the same time period.

Strange that they are not asking you to audition with a song from the JCS show.

I agree, Pat Benatar, the top 4 of your list, but not "science fiction double feature". It's too soft for the roles you are looking at. IMHO.

It's a matter of opinion, but I wouldn't sing anything from the show. I never sing from the show unless I am called back for that specific role, or if they ask for a selection from the show at the audition.

If you are not what they had in mind from the get go for a role, and you don't do a good job singing that role, they may not think of you for other roles. As I said, all a matter of opinion.
