Must we fear agent and CD disapproval? I also prefer no jewelry. But if that'sTarraDenise's style, then why not? Just think of the possibilities... to bolster "type."

Stars may still have black and whites because they haven't had an audition since then. They have "Offer Only Status" and don't have to audition and don't need a headshot.

Jewelry especially in this headshot is distracting. I'm looking at those more than I'm looking at her. So therefore, it does NOT bolster her appearance.

It also makes the headshot too specific and limiting. Had she not worn jewelry, this headshot could be used to portray A LOT more different types than with jewelry. Covering the jewelry up, I see her young enough to pass for shows like Glee or ABC Family. With the jewelry, she looks a lot older and probably wouldn't pass for those genres as easily. At youngest with the jewelry, young mom or young professional.

Brett, not to get OT, what if a headshot looked like this? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wi...omedyisnotpretty.jpg

Must you fear agent and CD disapproval? I'm a photographer, so who am I to say? But if I were an actor, I would definitely fear agent and CD disapproval and try to avoid it.

Every rule of course is made to be broken. If you want to use jewelry to show type, it can work. But generally speaking, I would recommend it only if you have a very specific type that you're trying to portray and want to limit yourself to those types of roles. Otherwise, why take the risk of distracting the CD and hurting your chances. As Justin points out, industry standards arise because they work.

Hannnnd! I can't stop staring at your hand! Which isn't a good thing when you want a casting director to go to your eyes, first and foremost!

Your work is absolutely beautiful! Too bad I won't be in LA until Feb 2014 Frowner. Any suggestions on photographers in the DC area?

Yes. CD's pour through thousands of thumbnail sized head shots and select a small percentage of them to click, and an even smaller percentage of those to bring in. Without a headshot that grabs their attention they will never get to your experience, training, or reel.

There's exceptions to every rule, and it would almost slide in this case, but yeah I would much prefer to see the same photo without the hand.

Also, the crop cuts a little too much from the top of your head, it almost touches your hairline. Overall, I think it's a nice shot, but I'd take a second glance at other favorites from that shoot.

The first thing I noticed is that your makeup is too light. Gives you grayish tone. Look at your face and then below your collar bone.

Otherwise, I like this shot a lot. Very pretty smile. Big eyes.

Oh the bracelet might be a bit distracting.

This looks way too retouched. Keep the first photo.

Yeah, the hand placement doesn't make it a headshot -- more of a glamour. Have any other shots?
