Hello everyone! I'm new here, living and working outside of US, but recently I've been thinking of trying to broad my horizons and since I'm more into movies and TV, I thought I'd give LA a shot. I found a talent agency interested in signing new commercial talent and also sponsor an O1 visa, so I thought I should submit my head-shots and resume and see what comes out of it. But since I'm not all that familiar to what is required in the US I thought I would ask someone who is. So here are my photos, for commercial, if you guys could take a look and tell me what you think I would greatly appreciate it! I know some of them are wacky and i'm not sure if they are right but I thought i'd ask anyway Thanks in advance! NO 1 NO 2 NO 3 NO 4 NO 5 NO 6 NO 7 NO 8 "Be so good they can't ignore you"

Not a fan of the glowing white background. Looks too model-y. The scarf around your head doesn't help and nor does the knit cap with sock glove and oranges.

Thank you TT. I'll keep that in mind. Are the other two left acceptable or should I just get new ones all together? These are 1 year old btw, but I figured since the agency is looking now, I should just send what I have instead of waiting another week or two to get new ones. Hi Lavinia, I don't love these because your expression is the same in all the shots. I like the first image the most from a lighting standpoint but I am not a fan of your hand there. The pink top shots are strange because it feels like you are really tall and looking down at the camera and there is a lot of focus on your chest. The #4 shot is a little too close and doesn't pop. I usually recommend that you get headshots taken in the market you want to work in. I think you could submit with the first shot and then get new shots taken when you are in the US. Hope that helps, Joanna www.joannabrooks.com Headshots LA

Thank you Joanna. You're right, i do seem to have the same expression on my face in all of them, it's what I noticed yesterday as well and decided to add a few others that looked different. I finally send the pictures to the agency...whatever happens, happens. I'm doing my best with what I have now and I will certainly take new, better headshots. Thanks again! When you do get new headshots, commercial shots are traditionally happier (not necessarily a toothy smile, but at least a warm, open look). In these you look moody and a bit standoffish, which can work fine for a theatrical shot, but I don't think sells you for commercials.

You only have one opportunity and I don't think that these are representing the best "you". My advice, you are coming to a market. The L.A. market. You should shoot here to maximize what is expected!

Thanks guys for the advice. I'll keep them in mind on my next photo shoot. I know they're not my best photos but it's all I have at the moment. I'll be coming ti LA next year for some classes and I'll take some professional head shots there with someone who knows the market Thanks again! "Be so good they can't ignore you"

I don't think any of these are going to do you any favors. -------------- Dennis Kwan www.dkheadshots.com 2012 Backstage Readers Choice Awards #1 Favorite Photographer in NYC!
