Has anyone studied with the Miami Acting Studio? I was trained in college, but it's been years since I've taken a class and I want (need) to brush up.
I audited a class there recently and was rather unimpressed both with the teacher and the so called talent of the students (most people had no experience, which is fine, but they giggled or half assed their way through exercises - didnt seem to take it seriously) and the fact you have to pay $125 up front just to be "evaluated" to see if you're good enough to join. Judging by the lack of experience of the students, I got the sense the evaluation was a ploy just to make extra money.
But, I realize my severe skepticism is based on only one class so I thought I'd seek out input that anyone might have on this company. Or if you recommend any other acting classes in South Florida.
Well i think everyone wants to make money it is the entertainment industry after all. And why not join to be the best in the class?
Granted, I don't know from all classes everywhere, but I've never heard of, basically, an audition fee, that isn't a scam. Many classes will charge, say, a $25 class audit fee, but $125 to audition for the class? My instinct is no way. What's stopping them from just pocketing your money and then turning you away?
Thanks for the input! I've decided to not apply here. Natural Gift, I appreciate your encouragement to be the best in class (haha!) but I'd rather be in a class where I feel challenged to be better based on the talent/experience of those around me.
There were other red flags about this place that turned me off from it, too, so those in conjunction with the audition fee helped me with my decision.
I audited a class there a couple months back and was also unimpressed. Considering the small market down here, though, I was still contemplating auditioning, but hadn't heard anything about a fee to do so...
