So, I recently had a meeting at Plaza 7 Talent (aka Main Line Models) and can't decide if they're legit or scammy. I've been doing lots of research but this is my first time seeking representation and don't completely know what I'm doing. I've been hearing a lot of mixed reviews. The agency is affiliated with SAG-AFTRA, which is reassuring, but is also associated with IMTA, which, as far as I can tell, is a complete scam. Also, their website looks terrible, but they could just have a crappy web designer. I'm trying to gather as much knowledge as possible before getting into anything with them. Has anyone worked with them before or know anything about them? Any information on them (or on the other agencies in Philadelphia) would be much appreciated.

Check out Click Philly, Reinhard, MMA, Expressions. I don't know anything about Plaza 7, so I can't help you there. Good Luck!

Reinhard and MMA are are the best, at least via word of mouth. There are a few smaller agenices around, but they are harder to find if you are just searching the web. Kathy Wickline has a Philly agency showcase every couple months, may be worth checking out before you sign if you want some different opinions.

Sorry to reply so late, but Plaza 7 is definitely legit. Diane Heery (Heery Casting) calls in Plaza 7 talent regularly. I was with Plaza 7 before they caught up with technology, and I got auditions here and there. I am no longer in the area, but I do know that Plaza 7 talent book work ALL THE TIME. I never had to pay any money to Linda, nor did she ever ask for any. It's a legit agency that's been around for years. Don't judge by their website. As I mentioned before, they had not been caught up with technology when I was with them. lol They do have a Facebook page, and you can check that out to see what their actors/models have been booking. Peter Coe is also someone to consider. I know Diane calls in his talent regularly, as well.

Hi Philly Actress!

I tried to break into modeling years ago with Main Line Models. The best things about this agency are that they give you good training to be a high-fashion model with their makeup and runway classes, and the acting classes are helpful, too. But on the flip side of the coin, they seemed like a scam to me. They insisted I put out all this money for a portfolio and classes and then promptly forgot me. My comp card probably wound up in a file cabinet, and there went my dream. I got the feeling that they treated most of their hopefuls this way. My advice is to take the classes if you want but decline the portfolio. Legitimate agencies either will not charge you for a portfolio or will have a much fairer method for you to get the professional pictures you need. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't put Model Mayhem as a reference to put anyone down. MM has had quite a few instances where people filed reports with the BBB when they felt ripped off or misled. A quick google search and you'll see what I mean.

Call the unions and find out what this model 7 agency is about. I would also be suspicious of them saying you need a new headshot and must use THEIR photographer reference, which could be a classic kickback for them. Ask around the business. If you haven't heard of them and fellow models with actual careers haven't heard of them, it's very likely it's shady. Be careful.
