It seems like a lot of filming has been taking place in the Southeast, particularly North Carolina (Iron Man, Hunger Games, etc.) What are the prospects of finding work down there as a local? Is it exclusively to Eastern NC, like Wilmington? Do studios there typically hire out of LA/NY, as opposed to locals? I know training down there is probably limited.

There are agencies in NC, SC and GA that represent talent and get them work in the stuff that films around there. Big roles (TV and film) are released to agents on both coasts. Dayplayer, small supporting, U5 and co-star level are usually cast locally.

This may be a nieve question but how does one approach CDs for these smaller parts when the shows/movies are not in major markets? Are there specific CDs that are used to call in local talent for these smaller/co-star roles? How would someone approach a casting director for a co-star for One Tree Hill, for example, when there aren't CD workshops? Thanks!

If you have a headshot/resume, I would say mail it to the local casting directors. They probably receive a lot less mail than the CDs in NYC and LA and might be more receptive to seeing a self-submission. No guarantees, of course. A couple of local casting directors I know off the top of my head that work on Southeast shows are Richard Futch (Army Wives), Craig Finacannon & Associates, Alpha Tyler - you can find more on IMDBPro -- look up shows that are filming in the Southeast and find the local CD. Some might have emails listed where you could do an email submission. Keep it short, sweet and professional.

Aw, I had already started a NC thread :P lol Anyway! For the projects in this area, lead and supporting roles are actually cast out of LA or NY. Teen Wolf was filmed in GA but they are moving it to LA next year, but you have other projects like the vampire diaries (GA), army wives (SC), homeland (NC), banshee (NC), necessary roughness (GA), eastbound and down (everywhere lol) and there are actually 3 large films being filmed in NC right now (well, 2 in production, 1 pre-production) and more. More times than often, co-stars are cast out of Atlanta in this region. Typically this area books basically extra work then "bumped" to a U5 and once in a while a co-star. There are great agencies in NC and GA that do submit to the casting directors for you since they go to the agencies first (depending on the level of talent needed). As far as getting in with a casting director to have a co-star spot, they tend to run thru an agency. You could always submit your stuff to the casting directors in the area but it depends on if they are actually casting or booking anything at the time. Sometimes they will have a list indicating they are accepting submissions for for upcoming projects but those are few and far between. Then you have the casting directors for background/extra work and they are constantly posting needing certain type of talent. Thats part of being in a smaller market industry. They try to find talent in a larger market for bigger roles before going to the next big city thats close then the local talent (I.E. they would obviously choose talent out of LA prior to someone in Atlanta or Charlotte, but then again they would choose someone out of Atlanta before Charlotte, if that makes sense - if not I can explain that further lol)

Keep in mind too that a lot of the CD's in Atlanta require in person casting and don't accept video submissions.

Not entirely true ... I'm sure it depends on the project and the CD. I was requested for something shooting in Atlanta by a local CD there and I submitted a video audition from NYC.

This is about 85% false. The vast majority of auditions I have done for that region were done via video submissions. If you are a local talent, they prefer an in person audition or if you can travel to come in but I have not run upon video auditions being a problem. Also as marbar said, it depends on the project and CD as well

So has anyone auditioned for anything lately? LOL (just trying to keep this thread alive!)

So I know "Caged" was post poned but I am starting to slowly see castings for this again, but I have not seen anything about anything getting booked or that things have resumed. Anyone heard anything or is working on this?
