might be getting a company cellphone soon - should I keep my regular phone?Go ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()

I work an information tech job in NYC. I may be getting a cellphone through work. Should I keep using my regular phone? It would be kind of clunky carrying around two phones, but I do not think they know about the acting and would like to keep it that way for awhile. I don't anticipate too many acting jobs in the near future, I have to get my financial house in order because of a long bout of unemployment/underemployment. I do believe the IT manager would check the phone bill. I don't know what the reaction would be if they found out about the acting. Maybe I just answered my own question. I will probably keep my personal cell phone for personal use. I have someone I work with and that is what they do (use 2 phones). Thoughts? Comments?

Company phone for company work, exclusively. Don't give them an excuse to fire or demote you.

As someone who used to check the bills and invoices of corporate employees who handed in expense reports, a resounding KEEP YOUR PERSONAL phone for your acting and the COMPANY PAID phone for the COMPANY. I agree with Yonie. Don't give them an excuse to put you back on the unemployed line.

I have to agree with everyone else, keep it separate.

That's almost a no-brainer. I mean it's good to think of ways to cut costs, but keep yourself in control of your own business because IT IS SEPARATE. Just as you should have your own web page as opposed to just something on Facebook. They're in control and can always shut you down.
