Ok I need everyone's advise. My child just turned 7 and is with one of the top modeling agents in new York for the past 2 years. Within that time he has booked jobs but was not sent out a lot. I have asked them many times within the past 6 or so months to start sending him out on commercials. I would never get a response. They are a manager for him when it comes to acting. So I started sending his picture to other top agents. I receive a phone call from one that was interested and they asked what agent he was with. So I told them and I explained the reason Why I was looking to leave. That I wanted my son to get into the commercial side and I felt like they weren't working with me. They said ok we will get back to you. About a week later my agent calls me and wants to know what's going on? Why Are other agents calling about my son. So I told her everything and Why I did it. She agreed to start sending him ( a little to late I thought) And we left the conversation on good terms. Since the beginning of September he has been sent out on 3 auditions for commercials. ( Is that good? Or is it dead right now. Also he really hasn't been out for print) Anyway I get a call from another top agent yesterday who wants to meet with my son. So I am thinking If these 2 top agents are interested in my son what should I do? He seems my son must have a look. Should I meet with them and be honest. I mean do you or should you leave the agent you are with before you have a meeting with another? Also for the acting side is it better to have a top agent or have a manger? What if they call my agent also. I don't want to hurt my son. Sorry so long. I just need to explain. Thanks in advance

Aren't you in in contract currently? If you are not, and are not happy with your agent, than I don't see why you shouldn't keep your options open. However, if you are in a contract, you cannot sign with another agent.

Children are not bound by a contract. If you decide to leave just send a letter to your current agent. Are the other agents that are interested print agents or commercial agents? Print and commercial agents are two different entities and having a print agent doesn't guarantee they are interested for commercial. You would have to meet with each team separately and go from there. It is not unusual to have separate print and commercial agents either. Is it possible to stay with your print agent and seek alternative commercial agents?

I would meet with new agents. If you feel like your current agency isn't working for you - you're probably right. Especially if they only respond when someone else is interested. Just meet with the others and see what happens. It might just be time to move on. Good luck!

to answer one of your questions, no you shouldn't leave your current agent just to meet with another. if the new agent is still interested after the meeting, that's when you decide to stay or leave

Just a quick word. The agents community is very tight..they all go out together to same events nightly/weekly they attend same social events and they talk...same way parents or actors do. Try and be discrete when approaching other agents.

I learned that! like I said one of the agents I sent the picture to contacted my current agent asking questions, and I never said I was with anyone. So I guess its a chance you have to take. I guess They all know each other and talk like us I'm just trying to get him into commercials. Is it better to have a manger or agent for commercials?
