But yes, it's hard to play off of OLD experiences. Example: remember when your grandmother died. Sad. But then you say oh! She lived til 90 so she really had a good life. Not sad. That method technique can make you change how you feel during a scene. I prefer Meisner.

No you can't and that's why I'm not a 100% Meisner guy. Meisner is great when working with another ACTOR, BUT it has it's shortcomings in auditions.

Auditions is where I find Adler or imagination in general important in that I create the other person instead of seeing a boring reader who won't give me anything.

Meisner also uses imagination..Give yourself an "As If..."

I've studied 2 years of Meisner and use imagination all the time on my own and also with a partner, as I was taught. We work on that in the emotional preparation, whether you are doing a scene or a monologue.

You should look into Eric Morris. His actor's workshop will really get under your skin so you can access different choices that'll get you to that emotional state. I usually use a piece of music that I'm really affected by.

I'm also trained in Meisner, but i was finding the emotional prep wasn't working for me so i started using sense memory i have gotten to tears after about four minutes anyone know how long it takes to perfect to the point where i could get it in seconds

I gotta agree with TT and Jon K. Directing us to "cry here" is ridiculous. If it happens, great but that should be something that is out of our control, not our goal. Okay maybe if playing someone who is koo koo it would be a good thing to make an effort to cry, because we Will see it!.......Hmmm
