Has anyone studied with Bill Alderson?
How did you experience him as a teacher?

Thanks.

Bill is very old school and can be very tough on you. The new approach these days seems to be very nice and nurturing in order to not scare students off. Not always the case, but this seems to be a new trend. If you can't handle some tough criticism, then go elsewhere.
I will say though that I grew a lot with Bill and he even gives all his students keys to his studio to rehearse whenever they like. This is a huge benefit! His assistant, who is no longer there, was actually a great teacher I thought and was a nice change of pace from Bill every once in a while. However I think Bill is teaching all classes now. Not many people know about Bill Alderson because he does not promote himself. However, he was Mr. Meisner's substitute for many years as well as the Director of the Neighborhood Playhouse in NYC where Mr. Meisner taught.

I'm a second year student with Bill. You won't get any closer to studying with Sandy Meisner than studying with Bill. He's an amazing teacher.

Bill ran The Neighborhood Playhouse for 22 years and was hand picked by Mr. Meisner to teach alongside him.

Go to his website to see former students, including David Mamet, Jeff Goldblum, Kim Basinger and Jennifer Grey.
