Anyone ever do this event? Seems interesting, and a lot of good people are going to be there. But I think I'd rather spend the money on next level of UCB Improv

The name alone is enough to put me off. And that is without knowing a thing about it.

Beware of ANY event beyond Hollywood that tries to leverage the magic of that word to draw people in. Or am I wrong to assume this is some kind of paid event that somehow leads people outside of Hollywood to think it will help them get involved in things there?

I agree with Paladin.

Granted I have always been curious about these things. So often I see dozens and dozens of "Hollywood" casting directors attached to these types of events...and of course there is always some sort of pricetag. Last one I saw was in Vegas and was about $800 to attend.

Things like this make me wonder, I can't imagine that legit casting directors would sign on in order to take advantage of all the hopefuls but I don't know. If they are it seems very discouraging.

okay its $250 I think, but a lot of legit people are going to be there including agents from CESD and Media Artists and casting directors like Kendra Castelberry. I live in LA.

They've discovered some of the biggest names in Hollywood, could you be next?

This of course is way up at the top; down at the bottom you find the usual disclaimer that, oh no, this isn't about employment, it's about education.

It's pretty clever really; they never come out and SAY, "Come to our event, it might make you a star", they just dangle the possibility and let you draw your own conclusions.

You know what, MB? It's impossible to protect some people from themselves. If you think the fact that some recognizable names are listed means you're going to get anything concrete for your $250, pay your money, learn your lesson and come back in a few years and tell us what that turned out to be.

So you are saying I should never pay for any workshop ever even if their is a legitimate person worth meeting with?

I am not doing this event by the way.

I attended this event last weekend, and it is a total ripoff. The casting directors and agents were not allowed to take head shots home. I didn't learn anything new about the craft of acting. The casting directors and agents do not give you any specific feedback. They just circle a number from 1 to 5, 5 being the best, on categories such as head shot, performance, stage presence and first impression. Without specifics, it is useless to know that some anonymous agent or casting director gave you a 3 in performance. It seems like an event for casting directors and agents to enlarge their already big egos and to self-congratulate each other. A waste of money and time. Do not attend.
