WHAT THE HECK! Couldn't even watch it. Not geared for women. That would be for men, if that. Just why?
First of all, I want to make it clear that I do not want to just antagonize here. I'm very interested in how women are portrayed in the media, and how content is created when having women in mind as consumers. And I was very interested by your proposal of creating content for women.
I'm removing my liking or not liking from this, I'm just focusing on the woman issue. And I'm going to be short and not elaborate much. Here it is: the lead's sole interest is around the male in her life. And very stereotypically. And the light humor included is also typically male, with some eye candy on top. It's like a boy's joke that includes a mom, not a mom's joke that includes a boy.
In few words, that's all. But I see how it was intended to be funny. Just doesn't really seem like made for women.
so many people also get scammed and never say anything or only pm so its important to post good and bad info. if ur doing good business u have nothing to worry about.
just another actor..
Well, in the beginning, the main character was about her boyfriend and, in the end, she dumps him and becomes independent, being alone and ok with that. The character has an arc. Also, there are NO comedies for women where they are portrayed as the lead character; they are usually girlfriends with no personality/ strippers/ etc. Our lead had a personality. But, look, not every film is for everybody. There are women who got what we were trying to do and some who didn't, just as some men got it and others didn't as well. To each his own, in my opinion. But I love the discussion.
This week we had a client book a recurring role on "Parks and Recreation" and another book a sketch on "Arsenio". I also had others go out for a recurring guest star on "Modern Family" and the new Hunger Games movie, among other auditions. So my clients are doing ok.
Also, in response to Trillian, women are FAR dirtier than men can ever hope to be. Become friends with some of them and you won't believe the filth that comes out of their mouths. I think that's why "Bridesmaids" was such a hit; someone finally tapped into that. We tried to create a Apatow vibe on what we did and maybe we weren't as successful as we had hoped, but I do think it's good for a few silly laughs and better made than most shorts of its ilk, which was our only real intention.
The whole "girl is obsessed with boy but then dumps him and learns to be an independent strong woman" arc is the oldest story in the book.
And really, you think there are NO comedies for women with female lead characters?? You must watch almost NO tv or films then.
Or do you think that things like Bridesmaids, Mean Girls, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Enchanted, or Sex and the City are not for women?? (Just the first few that immediately came to mind)
Wow! That's such a harsh critique for such a silly little comedy. We didn't intend to make "Citizen Kane 2" here; just something amusing. That's all. Why all the hate?
My critique above is not of your movie but of your statement.
You listed five titles out of 8 gazillion other projects that are male-oriented. When a film comes out that is geared towards women, it makes a fortune; females come out of the woodwork to see projects geared toward their sensibilities. Hollywood has yet to figure out that females go to the movies too. Remember a couple of years ago, when "Bridesmaids" hit, that every studio was looking for the next raunchy female oriented comedy, yet none really have surfaced. ("The Heat" being the exception, which had to bring back the star and the director of "Bridesmaids".) Why do you think that is?
This may be all true, but you said: "there are NO comedies for women where they are portrayed as the lead character". And that is just untrue. Even if the 5 titles I listed are all there is, which they're not, I still fail to see how 5 = none.
I respect your venture of making movies directed at women, but I resent what I see as you patting yourself on the back (and if I'm wrong in this assumption, I apologize) for something that you think is super original which I don't think it is. I'm a woman, and I have no problem finding female-oriented movies & shows to watch (and even if they're just cheesy chick flicks that are centered around "getting the man", they're still female-oriented comedies with female leads).
Never said it was "Super original". I re-read the posts and I never said that once. Wasn't patting myself on the back. Please! Yes, there are female oriented projects but my point was there is not enough, in my opinion. Do you agree with that?
No, I would not agree that there are "not enough" female-oriented projects.
Really? I think most women would disagree with you on that, especially female entertainment executives.
Ok, well I'm not an entertainment executive, I'm just an average female viewer, so what do I know?
