So I have a meeting with a reputable agency this week. I've been on a few agency meetings, so I kind of know how they go, what to expect, etc...but rather than the usual one on one, I get an e-mail saying I'm meeting with 4 agents from the company and my manager is also going to be present.

No pressure.

I guess what I want to ask is, is this Good News? Is it totally normal and I should just treat it like another agent meeting? If you've been in a similar situation, I'd love to hear your experiences.

Why do actors always doubt themselves? Does the fact that you're meeting all the agents sound like bad news? I would say this is GOOD NEWS and you should be excited that you've been presented with this opportunity.

Yes it is good news. The agent who is bringing you in thinks highly enough of you that he is bringing you straight to meet the whole "team." And of course your manager should be there because your agency representation is a big decision and he should have some input on it.

At the good mid size agencies it is standard to meet the whole department because usually they all work for all the clients. Usually dividing up the projects in some way: usually by casting director or studio or network, and each agent working for the whole client list in their designated "coverage area."

I always like to remind actors that the agent works for you. So you should be prepared with some questions too. Remember you may not have many choices in representation right now, but they don't need to know that.

Usually meetings like this (and I've been in more than a few) start off pretty causal, what have you been doing lately, what auditions are you going on, where are you from, how long you been in La?...

Then they switch to "sell mode." They may tell you about some of their recent success stories, how many working clients they have. They may ask your representation history, what casting directors know you and are fans.

Then they'll get to what they can do for you. They'll get you out on guest stars on good shows. They'll tell you about their great relationships with casting directors, and how they can go over the cds head to the network if need be. They'll start setting up meetings for you so that at pilot season the cds will know you and bring you in.

Then in a day or two the one who brought you in will call your manager with a decision.

Meeting with all the agents is not unusual, many agencies like to have all their agents to sign off on a new client if they share a list. Having your manager there is a bit unusual, but he's going to be in your corner.
