Huh? When has Bonnie ever been on this board? I've been hanging out here a while. What am I missing?
You do know Bonnie's column is on a whole other site completely unrelated to Backstage... right?
Years ago Bonnie wrote a column for Backstage and she did participate here and at many other acting forums and she was/is very helpful to all. Just wanted to set the record straight about this.
And since everyone is always suspicious about a first time poster (as they should be) I have to say that I have been on this board for many years with other screen names. However, they kept changing their system and it would kick me out. I used to be DramaMama eons ago. And a few other names that I don't recall right now.
What I don't get about Bonnie, other than the fact that she is a hustler, is that she really doesn't cast anything and has NEVER been an actress. So other than having a gift of gab, what does she know? But I guess she makes plenty of money teaching what she doesn't know.
What makes you so sure she's never been an actress?
Unless you know her personally, pretty big and broad assumption to make IMHO.
I'm pretty sure she was a child/teen actor for quite awhile. I want to say Georgia? North Carolina?
And, seriously, have you ever read her book? It has excellent advice. Maybe not for a seasoned veteran, but for a newbie like myself, it's good stuff to know.
You're taking this awfully personally.
Such hatred. What has she done to you? Go to Showfax and read her columns there. You obviously don't know that she was a child actor. Acting brought her to Hollywood. I read her columns and one of her books, and I know that much.
After being called ignorant by the person running this topic for stating something that was factual, I wonder who are the ignorant ones. Are any of you with a hate on for Bonnie real actors? How do we know that, other than that you're here on this board?
I used to read another board a long time ago, I forget the name, but Bonnie was there and so was Billy D. Didn't they used to be friends? If I remember right, the board shut down due to a scandal unrelated to either of them. Has anyone else been around since then and do you remember that board?

"A current writer for Backstage trashing the reputation of a former writer? Get real people, this is how projects are funded now. Why assume she's targeting actors and not anyone who chooses to participate? I've been asked to fund hinkier projects than this one.
If you read her book information on Amazon, and do legwork, you can find that Bonnie is her own publisher.
I don't get the hate here. I read her first edition way back when and her Casting Qs when it came out. She knows her stuff. This trash heap sounds like sour grapes. This community is better than that."
Actually, you didn't refer to her as a CD. You referred to her as a writer - the same thing that Sam referred to her as when he gave her a *compliment*.
I don't think he seems angry. But given the extremely inappropriate response to something written so plainly and so simply, which you couldn't comprehend - if I were in his place, I would find it very frustrating.
I see an honest response here. He's spoken to the same working capacity of Bonnie that you have - a motivational speaker/writer. And he said good things!
His statement was so clear and concise that there's no possible way to dumb it down for anyone who's not getting it - for whatever reason. Frustrating...
You seem angry. You don't like this thread. But why you chose Sam of all people to respond to - twice - I have no idea. I don't even know who Bonnie is. And frankly, based on the information available on this thread, I definitely don't care who she is. I'm not an actor.
After reading your posts though, I have to say - I'm with Sam.
You're either deliberately "misunderstanding" something that was written succinctly, or you're just really obtuse. And if you don't think that this topic warrants days of posting and you want for it to die down, you should stop perpetuating it with nonsense.
Jackie Chan, you are utterly clueless. She was an actress since she was a kid, came to Los Angeles still young, and after working on a program interviewing casting directors she started actually working as a casting director. Until she discovered that her gift to encourage and mentor actors was really what fuels her.
I do know here personally and please name a few network TV shows and features that she's appeared in. How it to me on IMDB or sit down and be quiet.
Wait, what? So, only people who have appeared on episodics and features can call themselves actors? What term do you have for everyone else? The people who do amazing work in children's theater, let's say?
This has become a productive conversation full of useful dialogue.
Useful dialogues and a few people outing themselves as idiots.
Though IMHO I'm never sorry to see people show their true colors and lack of brain power. And I say that simply because it makes it much easier to be able to narrow down who are the reliable and trustworthy posters on a board with SO many different posters.
Helps when you can just knock a few right out of contention of EVER being "people I'd give any credence to what they say" right away.
I like Bonnie. She's talked to me via social networking on several occasions. Sure, she's not registered with CSA, but I don't think you have to be. She may be selling a book unconventionally, but you don't have to buy it. I just think everyone is getting their panties in a twist about nothing. Quit worrying about what other, more successful, people are doing and worry about yourself. Does judging her make you any better at your acting? Don't think so. Are you all going to CD workshops? Have you booked from said workshops? That's definitely Pay for Play mentality.
I don't understand all the anger about this (or any Kickstarter/Indiegogo campaign from Zack Braff to Veronica Mars to Spike Lee).
No one is forcing anyone to do anything. If you are offended by them asking for money, you don't have to give them any!
Same with casting director workshops. I used to get more angry about it, but then I realized that no one is making me do it. I think they're a waste of money, but if there's enough actors who thinks it helps them, more power to them!
First world problems.
