My manager has asked that I record a demo of me singing. I'm excited for it..but know nothing about what should be on a demo, etc.
I know I should do different styles of song so I was going to do a musical theatre song, a r & b song and a bluesy/rock song.
Do you make a full song for each style? Do you only do a few bars?
Do you record full on different layers or just sing everything with no tracks underneath you?
Any help would be awesome!
You either record original songs or covers, with backing tracks; you cut them down to manageable lengths, say a minute, tops. Make sure that every track shows off some different form of style or interpretation.
After all this, you make sure it is mastered and mixed to perfection.
and by backing tracks to you mean back up vocal tracks that are layered together or do you mean some kind of music under my voice?
..and thanks for getting back to me!
Sweet melodies of music.
One thing you could do is check out Voicebank, then look at the top L.A. voiceover agencies for jingle/singing demos. That should give you more than an idea of what you need to bring to the table.
