Two questions.
1. I read somewhere that when you send pictures to agencies to not spend money on getting them taken professionally because the agent will probably want you to take them over is that true?

2. What type of stuff should i put in my cover letter

It depends on the age of the child. The younger kids do not need head shots as they are changing and you would keep needing to getting them done. An agent may or may not need you to take more pictures. The cover letter should describe your child and experience/training. If you had any special auditions mention that as well. Keep it short and sweet.

When I first sent pics in to my dd agent I just put her info (size, age, height, weight) and contact info on the back of the pic, no letter. They just want to see the pics, the less in the envelope the better! Good Luck!

You do not need a prof. pic to send to agents. Just send 2 snapshots: a close-up of face
& full body shot. Once you get into an agency, they usually have a list of photographers that
they like.
I would include a short cover letter to state what type of representation
(commercial, print,vo,etc) you are seeking & something about the child (personality, activities, talents).
Don't forget to include your contact info. so they can call you Wink
Good Luck!

Are you talking about a print agent or a talent agent?

Submissions to a talent agent should certainly include a cover letter detailing experience and training.
