My daughter has never EVER been asked to perform a monolgue for an audition.
The only person whose ever asked her to perform a monolgue was Diane Hardin but again, that was a class.
Is your daughter going on an audition that requires one?

Usually, monoloques are for interview with agents. We had only one time when my child was asked to do monologue as the character did not have lines but a lot of acting by facial expession. Our coach told us ones that we should alway have one comedic and one dramatic available in case. I went to book store and bought short monologues for kids book. Than my child choosed two - one comedic and one dramatic which she liked. There is plenty of books in the book store in the Theater/Film session. Good Luck!

Learner,
I actually have a book that I got from Border's but none of the monologues in it were of any interest to my daughter.

I guess I'll have to keep searching!

I got my daughters monoloque from a chapter book from the show unfabulous. She has performed it several time once infront of Bill Odowl producer of nick show Zoey101.He love it said it portryed her age great had a lot of chacter in as the actress Addie Singer was in the show. So my point is pick something there age they can relate to and you don't have to stick to monoloues from a monologue book in fact they like to see something that they have never seen before time and time again like some of the monologye books can have.I so stressed at first finding something for her. Try not to do that and have fun with it let your kid pick something they like and can relate to. Good luck

I know this is an old thread, but I get asked this question all the time, so I thought I would add to it in case it might help someone else.

Also, as far as being asked to do a monologue for auditions, in LA, I'm experiencing it more and more for both kids and adults. Actors should always be prepared with at least 2 monologues anyway, one dramatic and one comedic, to be able to pull out of their hip pocket at any time.

Here are some places to look:

Drama Diva, I had the same problem. Many of the monologues that I found in the books for children were either inappropriate or my daughter just couldn't relate to them. So what we used for her in her last audition was a poem from the book Danitra Brown Leaves Town. It worked, she got the part.

We generally adapt monologues from literature. For my dd, it works well if the book has been adapted to film. We've also used the monologues from the books commonly found at Drama Bookstore, Barnes and Noble or Amazon.com. With that said, my dd has only been asked to to do a monologue a few times...once for a SAG indie film audition and for Diane Hardin's workshops. Just in case the need arises, we have a 2 dramatic and a 2 comedic monologues ready to go at a moment's notice.

wwww.monologues4kids.com has several comedy and dramatic monologues for children. But - on second thought looking at this post, it looks like I'm trying to promote my website which I'm not at all.

I simply could not find monologues for my own children and after years of writing my own and monologues for my students, I started monologues4kids. I am a musical theatre teacher but if this post is in any way inappropriate - please delete it.

There are as already posted several good monologue books out there, plus a monologue can really be found anywhere - in a story, in a poem, from a show. The important thing is does it show range of emotion and does the child love it.
