Mominbiz, Hi you seem to know lots and lots. I have recently sent out head shots of my kiddos. I have a agency reply, but no interview I just send her 20 more head shots with her agency name and addy on the resume.. also we are not union, just starting, but if I am offered another job by someone else I cannot take it unless this agency has not sent the kids in for the same.. is this standard? Thanks for the time and help!

This is a good question. It really depends on the agency and the city you are in. But, to be honest, I am always suspicious of any agency that would not want to meet you and your children first. It sounds like one of those management type scam companies, but I don't know that for sure. Did you check all the places like BBB and easy background check that were listed at the beginning of this thread to see if this agency is legit?
Just wanted to say thank you! My daughter has it bad! She has always done recitals and things here ( Massoula Theatre), kept asking if I would send photos in ( we know a 21 year old who has done several things from sending in her headshots) So I am trying to research, even thought of going to LA for the pilot season, but thought I'd try around here first. Let her REALLY see if she likes it before spending that much money.. We live in an area that will not have lots. So if she could just get a couple of little things - I would take a bigger step. Ha!Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You might also want to look into background work for your child, if you want to see if they have the temperment to be on a set for hours. I don't know how much there is in TN, but I definitely would not come to LA for pilot season without representation first.

Hi, Thanks for the great advice. We are trying to do whatever we can here. My son just auditioned for a commercial. If I had representation here, would it be adequate there?Everyone here thinks this is crazy! Thanks again

Do you mean in Los Angeles for pilot season? No, it wouldn't. You would need to find representation in Los Angeles before you got out here for pilot season (or whatever is left of it).

When I said whatever is left of it I was refering to the fact that pilots are now produced year round. When previously they were all concentrated in the beginning of the year. I have heard many complaints of it being dead from those who came out with kids just for "pilot season." It wouldn't make sense to come out now, but there are always episodics. But you would need representation if you came out anytime.
