this is wonderful information. I started my son in a class just for fun and now he is like go look for interviews. I honestly knew nothing of the business or where to begin. This provides a great starting point for research. Oh by the way, my son is a natural (don't we all think that!) He really has a wonderful personality, is amazingly witty and funny and has great diction since the age of 2.

This is a great read for any parent that needs a starting point. Every experience is different, but experience in itself is exciting and educational. Thanks to you!!!!

I thought I would start off the new year with a must-read set of columnss with excellent insight and advice for parents who are researching the entertainment industry as a potential option for their children. Once again, Bonnie Gillespie has graced us all with her knowledge of working in the industy, this time with the focus on child actors. Thank you Bonnie! http://more.showfax.com/columns/avoice/archives/000807.html

Thank you so much for taking the time to put this very valuable information together. This is great for newcomers, and many of my questions were answered. MANY THANKS!
Since we do not live near NYC, agents would not be interested in us. Is submitting to casting directors directly something that is acceptable? And, if so, would we send a professional head shot, resume & cover letter, or a post card?
I am finding it difficult to figure out how to help my daughter take it to the next step since we do not live in a major market. Thanks for any advice!

mom2three...have you read "Raising a Star," Nancy Carson's Book? It addressed a lot of your questions about moving from a smaller market to a bigger market. I think you might find it helpful. GL.

You probably should read a. what kipmil says and b. all the books about the business that are listed on the various threads here. It's perfectly fine to submit directly to CDs, but the first time you can't make an audition because you can't get there in time will probably be the last time you hear from that CD. And word gets around. I'm not trying to discourage you, just urging you to be realistic. I have a friend who used to commute from Rachaha down here-all the jetblue staff knew him by name!

AND C...everything ever written by Bonnie Gillespie! You can access the archive of her columns on the Showfax board. She recently did a two-parter on kids in showbiz. mominbiz posted the links a few posts above this one.

Nice site, although it needs some updating on appropriate resume formats and using "color" photos.
