To "bump" a thread is to bring it to the top of the listings.Ever time a thread gets a reply, it moves to the top. At times, all you want to do is move the thread - not add anything to it. Therefore, BUMP.

Thank you for the wealth of information! Thought someone might know the answer to this. My son and daughter just completed their first commercial and postcard prints for the local camera shop. The commercial was filmed by our local TV network. Is there a specific kind of tape I should request from the producers for porfolio purposes?

Thanks, Nat

Hello and welcome!
Congratulations to your son and daughter!
Since you said commercial, I didn't know if you ment for print or an actual filming of a commercial. You should be able to ask the production company for a copy if it was filmed as a commercial. Just ask! It will be on either VHS tape of DVD. Most likely it will now be on DVD. Don't let too much time pass, though. Try to ask within a month after the shoot. If it's not finished yet, that's okay, but at least that should put you on their list of who to send a copy to. For any job, always ask for a copy. If it was print work only, you can ask for copies or they might tell you to check whatever magazine or brochure the photos will be in and then use those tear sheets for their portfolios and to make prints from.

Thanks MIB!

There were prints first, then an actual commercial shoot. I didn't realise a simple DVD or VHS copy would work. I thought maybe the tape had to be more technical - including numbers corresponding to date filmed and who filmed it. They filmed last week and from what I understand they haven't completed it yet. But I do have prints in hand.

Thanks for your help and all your info. posted!

Wow you answered so many questions for me..Iam brand new to this..Some people tell me go out and get professional shots right away of no one will be interested in my son..8 years old..Some people tell me to go to the agents in ny and just introduce ourselves..
He is in school and has had a few auditions with agencies that come there..do you think I need professional shots for the auditions at the school..How do I promote my son in the business..what is the difference in commercial, print, etc..he has been in many presentations at church, school, and is instrumental..I dont know where to start but need to get him out there..how do I find out about auditions on this site..thanks so much for all that great info..I really appreciate it..

You need to research explore talent very carefully. IN general, you don't pay for anything up front from legit managers and agents.

Thank you Judy Kerr! Here's a link to an interview with an acting coach for beginning child actors on how to prepare for agent meetings and more. Yay!
