Hi,
My son is signed with a top NYC agency but we are not happy there. I was considering submitting photos to a few other agencies but we are under contract for 5 more months. If we decide to sign with a different agency will that be a problem? Will our agency ever find out? And if they do what could happen? I need some advice please. Thank you

Depends what your contract says regarding damages. but talk to them--maybe they would let you out early.

Thanks for replying. I can't find anything regarding damages. What exactly is that? I thought of talking to them but I don't want to alert them to what's going on because they might not let him go and then I will be stuck with an agency who know's I'm not happy to be with them.

Do they know you are unhappy there? Perhaps they should be alerted to that...you could do it without hinting that you're looking at other agencies. If they care about your son, maybe they can make adjustments so you will be happier with their services. If they don't care or won't change, they may let him out without a problem, knowing that you are unhappy. If you're unsure about the contract or about causing problems down the line, best thing is to ask an entertainment lawyer to read it over, if it is possible for you to do that.

rthat's funny. we went through something and similar and the agent simply said no prob..good luck in the future. again, my dd was not bringing the BIG BUCKS so guess it also matters how much money your son is making for them. if he is a cash cow, they may not let him go, my guess is otherwise, why not! good luck!

If you've only got 5 months left on your contract, thats really not a big deal. I would say wait another month or two to start submitting elsewhere. Also, like babeedee says, they probably would not make a big deal out of it if you notified them in writing that you would like to be released from the contract (unless he is in the middle of a series or just booked a film or is a big commercial booker). If it were me though, I would stay put until I had another offer from a different agency. There is no reason why you cant start submitting elsewhere since your contract is almost up. Good Luck! It stinks when you are unhapppy with your representation but talking to them first is a good thing to do.

Before you walk away from your agency try talking to them. Tell them you are not happy.

What are your issues with your son's agency? How long have you been with them? Has he had many opportunities to work, and if so what has he done? Is there any concern of agencies talking since they most likely know each other?

Thanks for the advice everyone. Since we started he's done TRU 2x, target 3x, children's place 1x. He's definately not a huge booker. I think I will just ride it out then start submitting.
