Since I'm new I just wanted to see what the % is. Is it closer to 75% become bookings or more like 25%?

Hi Newbiemom

Lately, at least in the commercial world, there is a trend to 'hold' everyone. My friends and I sometimes joke about the guy washing the windows at the studio being put on hold, because he happened to be in the building.

Honestly, I have been informed of a 'hold' during the same phone conversation in which I was given my call-back appointment! Figure that one out :-)

But I digress . . .

In reality, no one can 'hold' you, without paying you. Period. I don't know about percentages, but I can suggest you continue auditioning, and as a professional courtesy, let the people who have 'held' you for that day know when someone wants to hire you, giving them the first opportunity to pay you.

Congrats on the audition and best of luck.

Jim

Lurker is right. Some places have a tendency to put tons of people on hold for one role. Melsky often does that here in NY so the best bet is to always just treat a hold like a callback and then you'll be that much happier when you book it.
I have to say that the hardest thing I ever learned to do in this business was to move on after an audition. It's so much easier said than done but eventually you reach that point once you realize how much stress the wondering causes. I sympathise with newbies who are struggling through that phase because it's a brutal thing to learn, especially after an acting audition that your kid poured their heart and soul into.

My 8 yo dd is sort of in that position unofficially now. She went for an audition and two callbacks. In the second, they put her on stage with the adult actors and wired her... and they want her. They say she's a natural and follows directions well, but she has very little experience acting (but tons of voice and violin recitals). So, they came up with this idea of calling her a "second," which I've emailed the ass't director about, asking her to clarify. I think it means they want her to take over the role in Dec. It's for a non-continuous tour that will go on through to 2010 with about 5 days off of school a month. But has anyone heard of this kind of thing before? My dd thinks it's great that she got this far and does want the job, but I'm the one with insomnia, thinking about it.

Thanks for the vote of support. I just found out that she got the part, which for her will be starting in December. They'll be rehearsing this summer, so it works out well. I'm still in shock.
