Are the auditions on craigs list safe? I want to be sure that I am not submitting for a scam or something dangerous.

If you get a response to something on Craigs List, make sure to do your research BEFORE you go meet anyone... Do a reverse search on the address, Google the person's name, etc. If anything makes you wary, don't go. And, if at all possible, don't go alone. Bring along a friend or something.

There are plenty of legit casting calls on Craigs List --- but you still have to BE CAREFUL!

95% of the listings are scams--so just check them out carefully, and never go to an audition alone.

Keep in mind that even if someone is offering a legitimate opportunity (of some sort) - they are choosing a non-professional way to seek talent submissions. That makes them highly questionable right from the start.

You might want to read our articles on online casting.. general perspectives that apply to all of the various sites.

I think a lot of student films listed on there are safe, but you would really have to wonder why a big paying job would be posted on Craigslist. I would trust the student film calls, but that is about it. You just have to be smart and very safe and like the others said, try to go with a friend or something.

A few in the last few months (in my area), want you to do nudity or close to it. And you won't even get paid for it.

I would say that about the ones in the "Talent" section on Craigs List since those are free to list but I've gotten legit casting calls for my daughter from the TV/Film/Video section (that you have to pay to place an ad on). Granted, I haven't submitted through Craigs List in a year or so but, when I did, the majority were legit.

The best advice I can give to anyone is to just be careful. Don't ever go anywhere off an internet ad --- even one from NY Castings or Actors Access --- without thoroughly researching the person/company and doing reverse searches on the address and any phone numbers. Never go alone or, if you have no choice but to go alone, be sure to have your cell with you and call someone right before you go in and let them know where you are, etc. and how long you think it will take and that you'll call them within the hour regardless if you're done or not. In other words THINK SAFETY!!

Before I take my daughter anywhere, I investigate more thoroughly than the FBI.

Listings anywhere besides the actual websites should always be approached with caution. Just check it out beforehand.

I have gotten work off of Craig's list, so it does happen but I was sure to check it out beforehand.

I'm new to this board but have been around this business for 8 years. Just never signed up for the boards.

I have gotten a few very good jobs through CL. Like anything today on the internet, you should just be careful, however, I think anything involving the internet needs to be checked out.

I have gotten some great print work on CL that paid well and some smaller films.

I found the listing to be on Tim Gunn's Guide to Style on Craig's List and was picked to get a makeover! (It worked for me!) They are actually posting another ad to begin casting for season 2 if anyone is interested! I had a blast on the show!

My kids got a couple of things on Craigslist last year. They both did a paid day as an extra(100 dollars) and my son did a school textbook shoot for 150. My daughter did stock photography for 80 an hour. Most of the other kids they hired seemed to come from agencies on these jobs, but they were very legit. But I also got some emails and calls from bogus agencies and such. One they kept calling but had no idea who was the model, they would ask whoever answered ther phone if they wanted to model with them.
