Yeah - my DD will have to grow into this one -- BUT so excited to see something coming (fingers crossed) to Broadway for teen actors!

I saw the Goodspeed's audition notice wanted 12-15 yr. olds. Unfortunately, mine is not yet 10, so she'll have to grow into this one as well.

Wow. It'd be amazing to audition for this. Sorry, I'm new to this and don't exactly know how things work. If someone could answer a few questions for me and give me some guidance, it'd be greatly appreciated!

I think I'm fit for one of the roles, and I'd love to audition, but it says under castings calls "equity male singers." Now, like I said earlier, I'm new, so forgive me if I say something stupid. Lol. Actors Equity is like a union? Would it be possible for me to audition even though I don't have a card for Actors Equity? This is a great opportunity, I'm really ambitious about it, and I'd hate to see it go just because I don't really know what I'm doing.

So if anyone could give me some guidance on the subject, I'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance!

Also, is it alright to sing A Capella when they say "an accompianist will be provided, please bring sheet music." Is it specifically for a reason or would it be okay just to sing A Capella? Thanks.

MKJ - there are a couple of threads about auditioning for equity productions when you are non-equity. Use the "find" function to get to them.

It is not OK to sing A Capella. Bring sheet music with your 16 bars clearly marked.

Welcome to the boards!

MJK -- If you go to the goodspeed's website, they are having their open call in CT this weekend. You could always schedule an appointment and be seen there without having to worry about waiting through the equity call.

The Goodspeed audition call doesn't say anything about 13, do you think they're still going to be auditioning people for it even though it's not listed?

Well, it does say they're looking for teenagers 12-15. I know it doesn't list 13 as one of the shows, probably because it's going to be at their second stage, but it couldn't hurt to audition. If they like you, then can always call you in again for 13. Also, you could call the theater and ask if the auditions are for their mainstage or Norma Terris as well.

Yeah, that'd be the best option for the equity hassle, but I don't have a song prepared, so I'd just be rushing and end up looking like a fool. My mom's friend who has alot of experience in theatre is going to help me out with the music, but I'm still waiting on him.

Thanks for the advice though!

Don't sweat it MJK: a friend of mine tried to get an appointment in CT (they do it by appointment only there) for her son today and was told all the slots are filled. So it looks like NY is your best (and only!!) bet now anyway. Prepare well, and break a leg!

Sorry, I don't mean to keep pestering you guys, but would anyone have any idea at what time I should arrive if the call is at 10? Reading through people's experiences, it looks like showing up hours in advance than the time listed is the best way to get seen if you're non-union.

I'd hate to show up there and not be seen, but if there's a chance I get to audition, it's well worth it.

Thanks again.

Okay, so I've prepared my sheet music, about to pick up a brand new stack of headshots, and am planning the trip right now.

Thanks to everyone for so much for the support, wish me luck and I hope everyone who auditions does well.

I'll be sure follow up on how it went when it comes around.

Thanks everyone!

MKJ, have you thought about calling Mark Simon casting to ask if they will see non-union kids? You probably should do that. I don't have the casting offices number but look on JRB's website. He also has the pix from the latest bunch of kids that just did the reading. It seems like they will be using different kids for each casting. He wrote a note to all saying that if you want to be considered for an audition to send your headshot or a photo and resume to Mark Simon casting. Also, make sure to have a pop song - you don't need the entire song (i heard this from a vocal coach who had 4 kids in the last reading) and don't do musical theatre songs (especially Good Morning Baltimore as JRB has apparently told the voice teachers not to send anyone singing that song)since it specifically says to sing a pop song from the last 20 years. Break a leg!
