It seems that most of the posts I'm reading are from families that live in NY or NJ -- Can a child from the Baltimore/DC metro area make it in this business (stage or film) without moving to the City?

I know of one child who does it from Maryland, but to be honest, it won't be easy with that long commute. We're in CT about 1 1/2 - 2 hrs. from NYC, and I think that's barely doable. Quite often we get calls for auditions, especially commercial ones, the day before. Legit stuff you usually have at least a few days warning, but not always. Although auditions are scheduled from 3:00-6:00 during school times, with the long commute you would have to pull your child out of school to make auditions, which can be problematic. I'm not saying you can't do it, or trying to discourage you, but just trying to be realistic. You need to know what you're getting into before you start and make sure it fits with your lifestyle. Maybe the person I know on this board from your area will weigh in on this one.
