has anyone ever heard of them? NUSTARS? do you really need to go through training or a school in order to be signed? I sent my 2 sons information to a lot of talent agents in nyc and haven't heard anything yet. it's been 2 weeks.

NUSTARS is a scam! Having training is definitely a benefit and helpful when looking for representation, however, NUSTARS tries to "sell" you their overly priced "training" and promise you all kinds of things. Agents and managers that are legit will not charge you a cent! Agents and managers make their money when your kid books jobs that they help your child to get. You should not pay them to get them to represent your child. You did the right thing to check them out on here. Keep up the good work and keep checking things out and asking questions. Good luck!

actually, NUSTARS does not promise you a thing accept the fact that if you are good enough to be accepted into their program, you will be trained by the some of the best acting coaches in the business. They will also allow you to be in showcases that will have top agents, managers, AND casting directors from magor networks. It does cost money, but if your serious about this career, then you want the best training possible and you want the best int the business. The idea that you're guaranteed that you're going to be signed with agents and managers is pretty funny because if it were true, then this business would be a heck of a lot easier than it is. Blklove4sure, if you're looking for training, nustars is definitely a good start because it goes into depth about the business and will help get you exposed.

I'm almost positive they charge you a few thousand dollars for their "training" including a few hundred for their photos. That has SCAM written all over it. Don't pay for representation or for a supposed agent/manager's (or whatever they're posing as,) training and/or photographer services.

first lets clear things up-NUSTARS is NOT an agent or manager. the program develops talent based on auditions that are held at a free seminar. If they believe you are talented enough then you are accepted into the program and then you pay for the classes with top acting coaches, it also includes a photo shoot with a top photographer and make up artist which is actually cheaper if you do it in Nustars than if you were to do it by yourself. what the program does is provides you with the opportunity to audition for top agents, top managers, and top casting directors for major networks some including mtv, nickleodeon, abc, etc. this is an opportunity that you would not have on your own. If you are talented enough, an agent, manager, or casting director could call you back or give you an audition right on the spot. So it is not a scam because they tell you up front what you are paying for and they DO NOT guarantee representation by an agency or manager they just provide you with the training and auditions.

Yeah, but you can submit your kids to agents and managers for the cost of a stamp and take classes with experienced NYC teachers for about a tenth of the price so why would you pay a place like this anything?

Kids headshots are generally not expensive so unless they charge less than $150 you can't convince me.

Anyhing with "star" in the title has the wrong idea about this business in the first place.

wow! This sounds just like JRP and ACT!

again...sounds very much like JRP and ACT agendas

This is just false...if you submit to agents and end up repped by them, they submit you and you get actual auditions for actual projects...again, these claims are the same as JRP and ACT...they claim you would not get these opportunities on your own...just plain false.

If you are talented enough!!!! If you have the talent, then just submit to an agent directly for free! and then, if you need them, take some reasonably priced classes and get some great, reasonably priced headshots. Come on...we all know that there is no need to spend money just to hear people tell you how wonderful your child is. Also, everything on their website is geared towards Hollywood. That is useless for a kid in NY UNLESS you are a)wealthy, b)planning to relocate to LA, C) intend to stay in NY but have access to a private jet or enough money to fly commercially at a moments notice and stay in hotels for last minute auditions and/or callback.

Let's call a spade a spade...

You're absolutely right, you can submit to agencies and managers with just just a stamp and a headshot, and if you're lucky enough they might even call you. But if we look back to the original post, i thought the question was- "is nustars a scam?" I was simply pointing out that nustars is not a scam and that it actually did work for me, through there training and showcases i was signed with one of the top bi-coastal agencies. Through my experience it is well worth the investment. Also Kipmil through my experience it is not how you described it at all. You are not told how wonderful you are, only if you give a wonderful performance. If not, you are told how to improve your performance. The point is, nustars is not a scam, and if you are accepted into the program and you are financially able to do it, it's a great program. blklove4sure, hope this helps and good luck!
