Hi,

I am about to order headshots. Is it best to order photos with a border or without a border?
I was not sure if one style was prefered over another.
thank you,
Jo Smiler

It's just a matter of personal preference. Most of the headshots I see have borders but if you like your picture without the border, then that is fine. If you need to add an agency logo and you are adding the name (pretty standard) then it might be better to go with a border.

You might ask your agent. Mine is very specific on what she wants.

We are with Generation and they told us just to print out the photos and simple write down our baby girl's name on the back. They specifically told me not to put any other information other then the first and last name.

MOM2GIANA

If you put the borders, it's better, because you can put her name in blocks,caligraghy...etc
Then on the back put her DOB/CLOTHES SIZE/etc And most importantly your agency and agency tel#
It just looks more professional, given you did it yourself. I'm with Product and that what we do,but if your with Gen and they told you specific, then i can't argue....lol

At least that is how I do it with shutterfly, love it just 2-3 cents a copy then I send them straght to my agency and few to myself for when I go to go-see's I give a copy to the clients with whatever pic's they(client) take that day.

but you see, I got stick intructions from Patti (Generations) not to put any information outside first, last name. I am sure that difference agencies have different approaches, so best would be to check with your agent.

TO the OP: You are talking about 8x10 acting headshots, not modeling shots, correct?

If so, I agree with actorsmommy that it is a personal preference. Like she said, if you are including the agency on the front, you would really need to have a border. If you just have that info on the resume on the back, then either way should work fine. The last ones we had done we did without borders. I kind of like them that way.

Hi,

it was for acting headshots. My child does not have an agent yet. I just had the shots done so I would have something nice to send in to agents, etc..
I went ahead and ordered with a border and just put her name. If she is lucky enough to get an agent, then we will just start all over with photos. I figured it would be better to send out some nice photos over my mommie photos, lol
thanks again to everyone that answered my post Smiler

You won't need to spend more when she gets an agent. The agencies all have stickers they can give you so you can add their names to the headshots. Good Luck!
