My DS is 17, and he just signed with a agency few months ago. He's been to about 15 auditions and still hasn't book anything. He's gotten two callbacks where he was put on avail.

Will his agency drop him if he continues at this pace? He started around in June.

How many auditions did it take before your children book their first job?

That is not a record that sounds to me like he will be dropped. Many actors go out on more than 15 auditions without even a call back. So two call backs and avails is really very good. My DS went on more than 15 before booking a job.It really is not that unusual.
good luck and hang in there.

If he is getting call backs and the avail he is doing something right! My daughter has 70% call back rates and avail 3 times but never booked something big(just a small small role on an student film) Her agent says that is great. We are just staying positive one day she will book. Good luck!

It also depends on what his feedback is. If the casting directors say that he's giving good readings, then that should be enough to keep him in good standing at the agency. Often times actors just aren't right for role, do to no fault of theirs. If he has a manager, they should help monitor his feedback (and his standing at the agency, for that matter).

It would take a lot more than 15 auditions with no booking for me to drop a client. When we sign clients, especially young talent, we do not have the expectation they will book their first time out the gate. Working in the youth market, we understand that most new clients are developmental. They don't yet have the experience of the craft or audition technique. These are two of the things we help them work on.

When we sign new clients, we're signing them based on the potential they have. They've got a great look, an amazing personality, and they're very confident when they walk into a room. If they're a little green, we know that with the right classes, they'll work hard, become competitive, and eventually start booking. It is always our intention when we sign a new client, that this will be a long term relationship spanning a successful career. Many of our working clients have been with us since they were much younger. And while they book often now, they too started off slow.

Is it possible that a new actor might book their first audition? Absolutely. It's even happened to a few of my clients. But I think it's more realistic that booking a job will take a little time. Most reps who work with young talent are cognizant of this.

First of all, congrats to your DS for signing with an agent. That alone can be difficult even for established actors who are changing agents.

Dont'worry about numbers, because it is differernt for every actor. Actors can book anywhere from their first audition to their 100th.

Also, age 17 is a bit tricky for new actors, because many times the production company would rather hire 18 or older to play younger. Booking callbacks is already a good sign of things to come. Being called back is an accomplishment and means he's marketable. You might also look at it this way. For any new actor, they should look at the first year or so as a way of getting in front of casting as often as possible just to get on their radar, which will give the CDs a chance to remember the actor a little better and possibly think of him for other projects.

Wishing him the best and hope he enjoys the journey!
