So I really want to go to Actorfest NY this year and I filled out the pre registartion form and gave it to my mom so she could pay for the workshop I wanted to take and she flipped out saying it must be a scam because shes never had to just fax anyone her credit card number before. I tried to tell her that backstage is very reputable but she doesn't know anything about acting so she doesn't believe me especially since we've been scammed before. So basically I'm jsut wondering if I don't do the pre-registration and just register at the normal time will you have to fax your credit card number, how does it work? and also will I be able to get in? like do spots fill up fast?

hey im guessing your a teen. Me too. I went last year and trust me its nothing important. skip it. Its a waste of a day. it really is. I know you probably really wanna go but its soooooooooooo not worth it. last year i really wanted to go and i did and it got me no where and fast. we ended up leaving early. All it is, is a big room with a whole bunch of booths of people trying to sell you there pitch. Cosmectic dentists, photographers, website companys, acting classes. They have boxes in the front of the room where you can drop off your headshot and resume. I did that and never got any feed back and the boxes were overflowing onto the floor. Trust me its not worth the time or money.

oh wow really? did you go to any of the open calls while you were there? Thats what i'm really interested in because Nickelodeon is supposed to be there.

It can be very commercialized (just based on personal experience). Again, if your intention is only to be seen by the representative of Nickelodeon...

Maybe you are better off..doing:


1) Ask your agent (if you have) to keep an eye out for you for any castings from Nickelodeon.

2) Visit Nick website to see if they have any public open casting calls foe new projects.

3) World of the mighty mouths. If you are current taking classes... talk and networking with your classmates... You will be surprised

The pre-registration form is indeed a fax form. However, starting the middle of next week, online registration will begin. So please check back at www.actorfest.com on Sept. 24th.

Many businesses do require a written (that you fax) credit card authorization. This is to protect them against credit card fraud or someone saying they never authorized their credit card to be used for the charge. I don't think this request means they aren't reputable.

The date for the 2009 Actorfest has not been announced yet. We'll be announcing the date for both the NY and LA events in the spring.
