Not really an easy question to answer. Are you talking about a feature? It's really dependent on budget and whether or not it's union. Robert Rodriguez shot both El Mariachi (made for $7,000!!!) and Desperado in record time...I think both were shot in less than a month. A big budget (union) feature could shoot anywhere from 6 weeks (very fast) to 16 or more weeks. A film like Harry Potter or Narnia would take even longer. Some films shoot over the course of a year, but not continually, in order to show different seasons. An epic with tons of background and many actors will take MUCH longer to shoot than a film with a few actors and scenes with little background. Location shoots take longer than studio shoots. There are so many variables that it's difficult to quantify without specifics. There really is no way to give a general idea that would apply to all films across the board.
