So my son was told that he is on hold, hopefully this is a good sign? do agents put alot kids on hold at a time? or do they put kids on hold as a back-up?

In NYC when you're called back you are automatically put on hold. The amount of people on hold can range from just a few to alot, but it's still great.

Being put on hold, or avail, or having "a pin in you", etc. are all great signs. You're kid is doing something right and getting very close. He's definitely one of the top choices, and whether or not he gets the job, know that he's on the right track.
