After a last minute note from Fluff (thank you!) we decided to head out to the Mary Poppins auditions in Atlanta today. They are casting for the children's roles for both Broadway and the touring company. It was a grueling day of singing, cold reads, and of course, waiting. There were only about 80 kids in attendance (70% girls).

After 5 rounds of "stuff" I am thrilled to say that my daughter is in the last group of 9 girls who have been scheduled for a final callback with the Assistant Director this Wednesday!! After that we hope and wait for a call to go to New York for another audition.

Anyone else there today???

Leah

I would spend those few days brushing up on my "British". She may have an edge if she can deliver lines with a half way decent British accent since the entire show is done that way.
Good Luck! It is a terrific show. We've seen it several times on Broadway. Smiler

Leah - I wish I'd known you were there!!! (and which one you were). My daughter also made the final callbacks for Wednesday!

If you go to the headshot section of this board you'll see a listing for Quick Headshot Feedback. That's my daughter.

I won't be there Wednesday b/c I have a huge meeting a work, but hubby's taking her back to Atlanta for the callbacks.

Good luck to your daughter!!!! (which one was she?)

Oh my gosh, tanya! I can't believe it! I wish I had asked around to find you. My daughter is Jordan Mitchell. She sang "Tomorrow" and was #17. We checked your headshot and Jordan remembers you daughter. Is her name Miranda? Jordan can't remember but thinks that was it. Gosh! We could've been sitting in the hallway talking and not even know it!

Hi, My daughter wants to go to the Mary Poppins audition in Washington DC next weekend. She's 10 and has big dreams of being on Broadway! I'm skeptical about "open auditions" for a Disney production and am wondering if it's legit or some type of come-on. I would appreciate absolutely any advice, insight, suggestions that you or others with experience can offer on what we might be in for. One other thing, my daughter doesn't have an agent yet and she isn't a member of any guild/union. Does Disney require this? Are we wasting our time going to the audition univited? Thanks!

I can tell you that I know quite a few kids who have landed on Broadway from a Disney open audition. When they see a kid they like they often keep them in the pipeline even if they dont get the show their first time out. I would say a "definite yes" to attending the audition. You do not need an agent or even experience for an open call. Experience helps, but it is mostly about the singing and the look at this stage. Good luck to you and your Daughter! Smiler

Thanks for the encouragement, Actorsmommy. My daughter is a sweet and talented little actress with quite a bit of onstage experience for one so young. However I doubt that she's up to Broadway standards vocally just yet. Nevertheless, the experience itself should be good for her. Thankfully she's pretty level headed and won't be crushed if she doesn't get a call back. Thanks again for the positive post! Smiler
