Just wondering on how to verify what the appropriate pay scale should be for actors in a Theatre production.
here is an email that I got from the director....
************ Dear Alex,
I understand and respect your statements, however ****** is unable to pay rates anywhere comparable to TV and film, as I’m sure you understand. This role is not a professional role – it is a child/adolescent role, hence the stipend at $30.00/Week for 8 weeks. That being said, *********** will be in rehearsal a good deal as he appears throughout much of the play, albeit in brief scenes at times. Although we don’t yet know exact dates/times of rehearsal, we need a commitment from you to be at rehearsal when needed – just to be clear. You had a great read and we hope he can still work on the project.
***********
Anyone have any comments ?

A bit more information is needed. I read that it is a child/adolescent role, but is the role being played by a child? Is it a young-looking adult? Is the actor a member of Equity? It is common for theatres to offer children a stipend, not a salary unless there is some type of contract involved, and that's if they offer them anything at all.
