Does anyone have experience--good or bad--with this agency? my dd met with them yesterday, and they want us to agree to a verbal exclusive. Any thoughts or input would be appreciated!

I replied to this because I just met John Shey from frontier Booking and he has some interest in my son. He said he would get back to me in a couple of weeks. The word that worries me is "exclusive." I live in PA, so I wouldn't want to be exclusive to someone that is located in New York. We are already involved with an agency located in PA, and I will not give them up.

You need to understand what exclusive means. Exclusive means FBI will be you only agent in whatever area/s (commercial, legit) they agree to rep your child in IN THE NY MARKET. It does not typically mean you need to give up your local agent. My DD has a verbal exclusive with another oft-mentioned and well respected agency for kids in NY, and still has her local agent here in CT. She is sent out by both, and there have been no conflicts as they really don't get any of the same calls.

Hope this helps. FBI and John Shea are very well respected in NY. Any kid would be lucky to be signed with them, IMHO.

Thank you for explaining this. I understood exclusive as meaning the only one that could represent you. We were under a manager in Miami when we lived in Florida. We were "exclusive" with her and I thought it meant we couldn't be invloved with anyone else. It was okay because she sent my son on a lot of castings and we loved her, but now being in Pa I want to have someone from both states. Your explanation is extremely helpful. I will update our involvement with John Shea. He said he would get back to us in 1 or 2 weeks and seemed very interested.

As long as John knows about your agent in Pa. I am sure it will not be a problem.

Hello, just curious donnam213........where in Pa are you? My DD interviewing in NY for representation, but you sound happy with your agent in Pa., but they are hard to come by. We are about 2 hr, out of NY.

I don't have a lot of experience with my PA agent because we just moved here from Florida, but when my son auditioned for him we really liked him alot and we were sent on a casting the very next day! I've slowed down since school began but plan to pick it up again in the summer. But since he and my son really hit it off, I want to give them a chance. It is Baby Boomers...The Acting Center- Rodney Robb.
Most of our experience has been in Florida.

I had a feeling it was Baby Boomers. We had a call from them the other day and want my daughter to come to their open call on a Fri. I did ask a few questions re: if they were a management agency or strictly an agency....didn't get a clear response back and also if they send out to NY or just the Phila. area.....again,not a clear answer. Eventhough we are in Pa., we travel to NY often for classes, auditions, etc.

Once I get more experience with them, I will post. But, we definitley had a good first impression. Also, I want to be able to travel locally as much as possible. I know a lot of new things are destined for Pa, especially with the movie theater they are building.
Hopefully we will hear either way from John Shea as well.
What kind of classes do you do in NEW YORK and who do you get sent by?
