Does anyone know anybody that teaches other accents? British, Southern,etc.....Would it be beneficial for a child to learn? Right now I see lots of voiceovers for Australian and Canadian accents.

We get asked to do accents all the time. It is extremely beneficial to know how to do them. British is one that comes up more often than you'd think. You can get dialect tapes and have your son/daughter listen to them.

I agree Accents are definitely beneficial, there are several tapes and dvds that can get you started but nothing will compare to hiring a dialect/accent coach. Just like any profession or skill practice makes prefect. I would recommend a dialect/accent coach but I honestly have never worked with one therefore I wouldn't feel right just throwing names out there.

Yes, Amy Stoller does dialect coaching and I know I have another one or two on file. Here's Amy's info:

I highly recommend starting with the cd's you can get from the drama bookshop and then move on to coaching if you have a big film etc that you may be auditioning for. The tapes have always been sufficient enough for me. But be careful of which ones you get. Some are much better than others and some are down right aweful. I like the ones by David Alan Stern.

I second Actorsmommy on the David Alan Stern CDs. They are available at the Drama Bookstore. You can probably get them on Amazon too.

Cymia'smom --- if you're willing to drive over to Birmingham, Alabama, there's a fabulous actress over here who does dialect coaching. Her name is Leah Luker. I can give you contact info.

Thank you so much everyone! Smiler I think I'll start DD off with the tapes for now, then we'll move on to a coach. Is the Drama Book Store in the city?

Hi cymias mom. I am sorry I was not able to help you with the southern request. But a specialist in either speech or diction in your area may be able to give you a referral to someone. Good Luck! Smiler
