HI everyone. I have read these boards for the past 3 weeks and thoroughly enjoyed them. finally decided to join.My son went to his 1st open call at JMM 2 weeks ago. He recieved a call back and we went the following week. Unfortunatly they werent intrested after all. My ques. is, is that he loved it and wants to find an agent (hes 11, and has been asking since he was 4!) if we didnt get excepted by them do you think we should keep trying at other agencies? I heard JMM was not all that great, and if they werent intrested could someone else be? Love to get your advice, he just had a photo shoot and have all his photos done.

Just want to point out that JMM is a management company, not a talent agency. You stated that you heard "JMM was not all that great," however I know lots of kids managed by JMM and some of them are doing quite well. I've heard very good things about them.
You asked if you should keep trying with other agencies...do you mean other managers? Or were you thinking of going directly to talent agencies. Either way, you should not be discouraged by one rejection...it will be the first of many, should your son decide he wants to pursue acting professionally! Do your research and figure out who you'd like to submit to and then go for it. BTW, you mentioned that you have headshots...even though you have headshots, once you sign, your new agent or manager may ask you to get new ones to their liking.

HTH.

Thanks so much for the info. I was glad he had the experience of him getting called back and finding out what goes on, he dfinatly wants to continue. I do not think we have a preference re: agent or manager, whoever can help us get our foot in the door that we get a connection with. I had a whole photo shoot done for him (65) pics so I was hoping if we found someone they would be to there liking. My 6 yr old wants to do just print work and I was gonna arrange her to get her photos, I guess snapshots are okay then until someone is intrested?

Don't think that JMM isn't the real deal because of the open call, they are. But they aren't for everyone, nor is everyone for them. I know a very succesful child who didn't make it to their callback. She ended up with offers from several of the top managers. So yes, go to others, if a manager is what you're looking for, as kipmil pointed out.

Alison, JMM only takes a very small percentage of the kids they see at these open calls so dont get discouraged if you are not one of them. I know many many kids that didnt get picked up by JMM but went on to success with other managers or agents.
They take the kids in a room in groups of about 5. They have the kids all read their commercial in front of them ( a panel). That's it. Then you leave. It takes about 3 minutes total (if even) once you are in that room. There will probably be a few hundred people there and you will spend more time waiting than anything else.
Just practice doing the commercial you picked. Say it with some excitement. Good Luck to you!

Also, yes, you will need a headshot. It doesnt need to be professional right now. Take a nice shot of yourself and bring an 8x10 copy with your resume stapled to the back.

Also, the info I gave you is for their open calls but I noticed now that you said "appointment". If you have been called in for an appointment or interview (not on their open call day) then the process will be slightly different but they will still likely want you to read some commercial copy. Take the time to look over the copy and figure out how you want to deliver your lines. Dont rush.

Hi Alison. Its so funny to read this older post of mine from back in January. If you read my post my ds was in the end not asked to sign with JMM but ended up signing with another manager that is just as good. So everything happens for a reason and like Kipmil replied back to my post earlier it would be the first of Many rejections, the business is full of them, so if they do not offer to sign you DO NOT give up, we didnt and my son has been doing ok!
