I'm just now catching up on this thread (having arrived home from NYC early this morning). We, too, had a GREAT experience with the Annie auditions. My DD made it through the singing and dancing callbacks and was cut at the end of the day Saturday. She was quite pleased (especially since she made it through the dance callbacks!!) with the whole process and had a blast with the other girls.... and wandering NYC.

All told - a great experience -- SOOOOO much better than Lion King!

And you had such great weather for most of the weekend. NYC is so much more fun when the temps are not subzero! Wink

Wanted to add --- I ran into one of the girls/moms that auditioned for Annie while at the airport Monday night. She filled me in on the pay --- $300/wk for kids, another +/- $250/wk for parent, plus $500/wk for hotels. Doesn't seem like much money for quite a commitment (financial and time). Is this common??

Just a quick question on the "pay". Is the $300 and $250 actual pay or is that per diem and then additional pay for the kids? Even for non union it sounds a little low if that's it all.

$300 week salary, about $440/wk per diem (child only), $275/wk parent stipend. Overage is paid only to actors that complete the tour in its entirety.

Donnastagemom -

I may be reading too much into your "some of us are not in it for the money" comment, but I'm going to comment regardless. I raised the issue of money not b/c my daughter was auditioning "for the money", but rather because:

1. Like many families, my family relies on two incomes. I cannot quit my job - or take upaid leave - if the compensation for my child wouldn't be at least enough to break even with expenses. It is a simple economic reality that is not going to change.

AND

2. There's a point at which a low salary is simply taking advantage of children. I'm not saying the salary on the Annie tour is necessarily that point - but I've certainly seen that in my industry (also a creative field with lots of "freelancers"/independent contractors) when people agree to work for less than reasonable rates it depresses the pay for everyone.

I've been told that in prior years the pay for this show was higher. Being new to the national tour scene (though not at all new to local/regional theatre), I was simply wondering if this rate was the norm for non-equity work.

~T

BTW - Donnastagemeom, I do wish your DD the very best of luck! It will be an incredible opportunity.

Boy, that is a shame that pay is so low! My daughter does print besides acting and makes more in 2 hours than most people would make in a week on the tour. I am not saying, that it would not be a great experience, I am just surprised it pays so little! Annie is so wonderful though. I am praying you all hear something soon! Don't give up! I'll never forget waiting for that Annie phone call years ago, even when it was only community theater! Hang in there!

the show is non union as opposed to the past show that was union. i do understand both points and some of can do it and some of us cant as i have been on both sides. the reason why they told us the salary was to give us a heads up if our kids were chosen. if my daughter got this i would make it work as it is a chance of a life time for both of us. thank you for the well wishes....break a leg

Anyone hear anything yet about the Annie tour casting results? It is so late in the week and I am losing hope. My daughter was one of the last kids left on Sunday afternoon. We had a great experience and just got back home last night.

Offers have gone out and families are weighing the pros and cons. It's a tough schedule and very low pay and won't work for everyone. If anyone turns down the offer Networks will move on to the next girl on their list.
