Hi everyone! My name is Erica and I am a 17-year-old aspiring actress. I have always loved films and acting, but I have just started taking it seriously over the past year maybe. It is difficult because my parents aren't completely enthusiastic about my career choice, but it is what I want. I also go to boarding school, but we only have about a month and a half left of school this year so I will have more time to go to auditions. I just had an audition a couple of weeks ago and the producer said that she would get back to me in about a month and during the audition she said that she was "loving it" so I am hopind that is a good thing. I am also thinking about sending in a video audition for the film "Youth in Revolt" starring Michael Cera. I love acting and I can't wait to go to college in California or NYC to broaden my studies and be in a big city where I can find more auditions. I have some of questions though:

1. I am already a member of Backstage and Ross Reports, but does anyone know any other websites where I can find casting calls?

2. Does anyone know of any upcoming auditions for females in the age range of about 15-18?

3. Regarding college, I am interested in film and acting, would you recommend going to college for film or theater?

4. If I were to go to college for acting, would you recommend choosing my major when applying or waiting until I am already accepted?

5. I am involved in acting classes in my school in which we are required to have a performance at the end of the semested and senior year I am going to take Acting Major. My school also has a requirement that students must play at least one interscholastic sport and they must be active each season. My parents want me to do something active during the fall to prepare for hockey season and in the spring there aren't any drama productions. Do colleges accept you into their theater program according to how many theater productions you have been in or does it also include how many films you have been in?

Thank you for any and all responses

Tell me I'll fail, it will only guarantee my success.

Erical, a couple of things. Good luck to you in your education and career choice. I have reservations about my own son's possible choice in this area as well, but we have a little time there.
So, you want to become an actress in the Big City..... First, don't expect to audition and go to school at the same time. One or the other. Most serious programs will not allow you to do outside work. You can be dismissed if not approved by guidance. As far as theater or film you will have to audition to be accepted to either program. I am using SUNY Purchase as an example since we have the most experience with that school. I would talk to their guidance people and see which program you would most likely be accepted to and whether or not you could double major or major/minor in one. As far as web sites, we mainly use nycastings since we are in NYC market.
Good luck to you.
