I would defer to kipmil on this one. If she says that the 4-7 year-old-workshops are worth it then you should probably look into it. She is usually right.

i hear it is hard to get into her classes with out a referral - is this true?
Since many of you seem to know her/ have taken classes with her can you tell me: is it appropriate for me to just cold call and ask about availabliity and such? ALSO what do you think about Lee Strasberg?

Her classes fill up with current students pretty quickly, but you should be able to find a slot somewhere in one of the workshops. Just call and ask her what she has coming up. She is always working on developing and pulling great programs together, so it might not hurt to call every few weeks. She keeps the programs on the QT until she has all instructors confirmed.

We've never done Lee Strasberg. I've heard good and bad in regards to their kid's program. Maybe someone with experience could chime in here.

I called Madelyn today and as ever one says she was super nice. She did ask where I heard of her I told her her. She has a 7 week class for ages 4-7 (called the non readers) coming up next month she said she will give me a call to let me know the details. I forgot to ask price Wink

Actually Optimistic,

The classes for 4-7 year olds have the highest rate of kids getting signed. The agents just go nuts for that age bracket and the fact that the kids have gone through a program that teaches them how to audition with confidence is a big plus. The percentage of them getting signed is extremely high because kids that age are so in demand. The fact that after the program, they can/know how to walk into a room full of strangers and audition/perform is a huge thing.

Further, Madelyn gives credit card reciepts for every class and believe me, I have ALL of mine as the classes are fully tax deductible!

Actorsmommy, at the risk of sounding like an idiot, classes are tax deductible for everyone? Or is it only if your child is earning money in the industry? I think I asked our accountant that one last year, at the same time I asked if all my special needs dog's meds were deductible (which was no also). Thanks!

I am so excited, my son is going to be taking his first NY class and it is a 2 day with Madelyn Burns! I've read through this whole thread and I think this is just what my son needs. He's one of those kids that once someone works with him they love him and he always does well with monologues or sides but he's not particularly comfortable talking about himself so he might appear nervous when really he isn't. This message board is great for information!
