It does not affect it either way except for the next job he will have to join sag which is pretty expensive now. If your son does non union jobs then once he joins sag he can no longer do any non union. In my sons "career" he has only gone on 2 auditions that were sag only kids. One was for back ground with possible up-grade and the other was for a not sure if they were even going to use a kid or not.

SAGe is the best place to be and it looks great on a resume. It shows casting you have worked on a professional set as a sag actor!! You can still do all the non-union work you want. Next sag job you book you must pay up!!!
Thank you all for your replys. We have only been on two or three auditions so far this year that were SAG. One or two commercials and a low budget film. It doesn't seem that joining the union would be worth it to us when the majority of the work up here is non-union. Has anyone turned down a job to avoid joining the union? It seems like that would be hard to do if it was for a good role.

You don't want to be in a hurry to join SAG up here, until you really have to. Once you join, it's goining to put you out of over 50% of the projects up here.
