I highly recommend starting with the cd's you can get from the drama bookshop and then move on to coaching if you have a big film etc that you may be auditioning for. The tapes have always been sufficient enough for me. But be careful of which ones you get. Some are much better than others and some are down right aweful. I like the ones by David Alan Stern.

Hi, Amy Stoller here! Thanks for the recommendation!

Tapes and CDs are good if they help you. Some work well for some people, and others work well for other people. Many people do rely on David Alan Stern. Gillian Lane-Plescia produces excellent CD/booklet sets, which include samples of native speakers. Drama Book shop carries them. Paul Meier also has excellent ones. I don't know if DBS has them in stock.

I coach in person in New York City. If you're outside the area, feel free to contact me about coaching by telephone. You can look for coaches in your area by visiting the website of the Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA), a professional association of which I am a member. http://www.vasta.org

When my DS was intent on auditioning for Oliver last year I coached him on developing a passable cockney accent. He later showed some interest in differentiating between Irish, Scottish and Aussie styles of British accents. I have no idea when he will be called upon to use this new found ability, but it was fun showing him pronunciation and dialect exercises. Of course my wife had to listen in to make sure I was doing it right. She is a Speech Pathologist specializing in language disorders....
It is always fun for kids to try to master another accent or dialect. Have fun.

Watching films such as the original "Oliver!" and any other films with native speaking foreign actors also helps and is fun for the kids, as well.

Also, thanks to everyone for contributing such helpful info! Smiler
